Old Havana, even in ruins is a majestic place packed with palaces and amazing ruins.

Those places are majestic.
I love to walk around all that area.
Look at this house.

Leovigildo ... that majestic home houses either a high ranking Commie government official or a high level foreign executive from on of the many multinationals that are doing business in Cuba ... do not kid yourself if you think it belongs to anyone but the government .

I have been to Siboney and your picture is an exception to the norm .... most of the houses are crumbling and in ruins ..... you are given off false impressions my friend . I went to a wedding in Cuba five years ago and was there for ten days and that was enough to see that living under that system sucks

Most of the material for the reconstruction comes from Spain, of course, but the Mad one wants to buy the stuff in Venezuela, Venezuela doesn't have any materials.
This street here resembles Barcelona a lot.

Looks like a street in Old San Juan , old Cartagena or Colonial Santo Domingo ... not really Barcelona .

I will state this though, West kendall in 2009 is VERY DIFFERENT than West Kendall in 1989 (20 years ago).
West Kendall in the 80's was considered a VERY GOOD AREA in the county with VERY LOW CRIME RATE. The people, the level of service, traffic, peoples general demeanor, all was much better then.
Now, the majority of residents are hispanics compared to the 80's (nothing against hispanic, I am one too). However, now you have many hispanics who are unwilling or not capable of speaking English at business establishments. It is gradually becoming LITTLE HAVANA.
Now a days you see more and more kids dressing ghetto in West Kendall and have that "Gangsta" look where it was definitely not the norm 20 years ago.
You also see many kids using the "N" word and lots of profanity like you do in the inner cities and in the ghetto. Heck, you even hear them speak like that when they are working during their shifts in Mcdonalds and BK.
It is very sad that not only has it become the norm but accepted by people and even managers who supervise these teens at work sites. I do not even want to imagine what it would be like 20 years from now.

Wow your post is right on ... I was in NYC in the 80's but got down here a lot especially in the summers . I had family in Kendall and yes it was a beautiful , upscale area and it had a nice mix of White American and Hispanic residents ... in fact I remember White Americans being the majority .. but it was a nice mix and everyone got along fine ... that has changed as you so correctly put it and it is becoming Hialeah unfortunately . Many of the Hispanic teenagers I have to say remind me of the young Puerto Ricans that I used to see in The Bronx .. ghetto and nasty .

Rock
The largest ones belong to Cubalse (Cuba al servicio del extranjero).
A company that belongs directly to Fidel Castro.
Cubalse rents them to whoever pays the rent.
Embassies, companies or yourself.
Some to High Ranking officials, and some to private individuals.
I'd say that most (small to medium) belong now to private Cuban citizens.
I know people that live in those houses, some, very few, dating to the old times.

Not Siboney, no way.
No houses on Siboney are crumbling, not a single one.
Not on Siboney (Bilmore), not on Mayabey (Country Club) and not on Country Club Heights, etc.
You probably were in other area.

The day the kids in West Kendall remind me of those in the Bronx, I will have to take cuba libre out to dinner or something. Admittedly, I neither live in West Kendall nor spend a lot of time there anymore, but if you're seeing lots of kids that look and act like the "Boricua and proud" wannabe gangstas in the Bronx, the place has changed drastically in a very short time. Hopefully this is just contained to a small area of West Kendall and doesn't spread... it will be a shame if a nice area is ruined by people with a "ghetto" mentality.
