I am moving from San Diego in 3 months and am having a difficult time pin pointing safe areas to live in or around Miami. My school is in Coconut Grove, and I am hoping to find a nice home or condo within 30 minutes of this area. Currently I live in a 1 bedroom condo and pay $1,800, so as you can see, I am willing to pay for safety. I would prefer a small home over a condo but am not sure if this is realistic??? I don't want to pay anymore then $2,300. Ideally, I would like to be in an area within 5-10 miles of a few restaurants and "hang out" spots, possibly a grocery or convenience store, and not too far from the best nightlife in Miami. I would also like feel safe enough to jog outside daily and walk my dogs! I am looking forward to this move and hope to make the best choice for myself. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Both the grove and Coral Gables are very safe, clean, resourceful, and vibrant. I would concentrate your search in those areas......and all of your needs, desires, and price range should be met.

Best of Luck

Also look in the South Miami/Gables area just south of Sunset Drive and east of US-1 (east of Red Rd is the nicest part, but it is all very nice). This neighborhood is very attractive, safe and within walking distance to many things (grocery store, restaurants, bars, Sunset Place mall, etc.) as well as biking distance from the Grove. I am a female, and I used to live in a condo in that neighborhood off of Red Rd and used to jog in the neighborhood daily with no worries for my safety.

The miami market has depreciated much less so you can get a nice 1-bedroom rental for a much smaller amount in those areas. Coconut Grove is probably one of the safest neighborhoods within the city of Miamin and Coral Gables is primarily filled with families.
