Default Need travel/hotel help to Miami!

I'm visiting either Miami Beach or Santa Monica for my birthday in July and I want to stay somewhere safe but more emphasis on CHEAP! I'm just going to be sleeping in the room anyway with my girlfriend. I'll be leaving on the 27th (Monday) and coming back either the 30th (Thursday) or the 31st (Friday). I'd prefer to be near South Beach if possible. A plane from D.C. looks to be costing $165 round trip per person. Sound about right?

Any help would be appreciated!

I just found a hotel on hotwire.com (doesn't reveal the name but it is 2.5 stars) for $37 a night in Central South Beach. How is this area? Hotwire.com seems to have good reviews on this site so I'm not too worried about not knowing the name.
