Roberto: I would not call South Florida very cheap, especially when compared to other states like Texas.

Southern Florida is not very inexpensive, but it is still relatively inexpensive compared the more desirable areas of Europe, the US northeast and California.
I carefully compared southern Florida to Texas - Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas -, and the only apparent advantage is that property buy prices in Texas are about 40% lower than in southern Florida. However, the property tax is about 33% higher in Texas, so in the end, though of course you remain with more capital in your pocket in Texas, it is about the same in terms of annual expenses. However, in terms of quality of life, "tropical Texas" (Houston - which does not really have a livable, or even desirable, center) has worse humidity than Florida and does not have the "grace" of the Atlantic Ocean breezes, while "continental" Texas (Dallas-Forth Worth) has both extreme summers and winters (and no coast, just some lakes), so you need to run your HVAC system throughout the year for both cooling and heating: it is cheaper to cool than to heat, and I, for one, use the AC about five months of the year, and rarely 24/7 (though admittedly I use it relatively seldom compared to the norm).
If you know how to shop, fruits & vegetables and fish, among other things, are relatively inexpensive in southern Florida.
Finally, I would add that most Europeans who come to the US nowadays are not "immigrants" in the most used sense of the term, but professionals, businesspeople, young people looking for adventure, maybe a faster career track, and maybe some retirees, and so, in addition to all the reasons being discussed here that make southern Florida a popular destination, there is the opportunity to pursue the real American dream, which is not bogus housing high on the money supply, but to open one's own business and pay what are still, at least for now, relatively low tax rates, and on top of that Florida has no state income tax, especially valuable for those who set up sole proprietorships and partnerships, whereas in the most desirable countries of Europe, they asphyxiate a start-up business to death with taxes - not to mention bureaucracy - even before it turns a euro of profit.

there are many euros in all of those towns, not that being euro is some sort of confirmation of worth. euros are people just like any other trying to make their way forward in life. some of you posters seem to equate euro with wealth and refinement and that is simply not the case. personally I think europe is backwards and considerably inferior to the united states in everything. you have working class people from all over the world in all of south florida and a goodly portion of those come from europe. do you really think everyone wants to move to all show no go coral gables? some people understand the wisdom of living well within their means and thusly look for value especially when it comes to where they seek shelter. many of the people who understand this concept are european.

And you surely are putting up a great display of ignorance. Inferior in everything?!? As in junk food, porn, crime, lack of history and culture, etc? Surely I agree with you there.

I'll ask you, what do you think is better from europe?
in my opinion pretty much everything in europe is inferior, the toilet paper, the streets, the cramped dwellings, the little cars that go beep beep beep, the moldy buildings (yes even the new ones) the pomposity of it all, yes europe is inferior to america in just about everything. I think the exceptions mediterranian cuisine, french pastries, belgian beer, ya belgian beer gets the nod from me. it is better than even the best microbrew here. well...also the no tall buildings in paris. I think that is great idea too. well.....italian women under twenty five years of age aren't too shabby either. I think you get my drift. but aside from these few concessions if you gave me europe I'd sell it to the chinese.
The People:
I find europeans to be like a walnut, a hard shell with a soft interior while we americans are like a peach, soft and juicy exterior but a tough tough core.
The Philiosphy:
europe has given the world global colonization, the subjugation of all the worlds peoples, the exploitation of the natural resources, over 200,000,000 murdered people in the twentieth century alone and two huge wars which both required our youth and industrial might to end.
european world view is a lot of trouble.
I will say this, once you befriend a european it is pretty much a great and solid friendship. if you negelect to keep in touch with them they get their feelings hurt unlike those with americans where after twenty years of no contact you can pick up pretty much where you left off after catching up a bit.
so in my opinion america is far superior to all things europe. we are also the world's oldest republic.

Wow, you know so little about Europe that it's not even funny. For starters, you can't lump "Europe" into one category. It's a CONTINENT made up of many DIFFERENT, sovereign nations, each with their own language, culture and customs. Comparing Sweden to Portugal and the UK to Greece is like comparing the USA to Bolivia.
Perhaps if you were to travel outside of Dade County "dadeguy", you might not be so ignorant.

...coming from the person who claims there are no tall buildings in Paris. Google "La Defense"...Paris has a decent skyline and 2 supertalls planned. Then again, your only information about Paris comes from 40 year old travel guides, borrowed from Hialeah public library!
