Default East Kendall

What do you think of East Kendall? What are the schools like? Shopping? How far is it from downtown MIA? The airport? Are people snobs there? What is the racial breakdown?

I know nothing and I'm moving there soon. I would appreciate the info. Thanks!

East Kendall is nice, close to lots of shopping, restaurants, etc. Depending on the time of the day and traffic you can be to the airport in 10 minutes or 40 minutes. The same goes for downtown, it can take 20 minutes or it can take an hour, it really depends on traffic. The people in east kendall are over all pretty nice, its those that drive through East Kendall that are the issue. The racial breakdown is probably 40% white non hispanic and 60% hispanic, very few blacks in the area (small area called Howard). The schools in this are actually really good. There is alot car burglaries and some home burglaries that have been happening ALOT in this area, but the community seems to be coming together with the police, so hopefully this gang of thieves will be caught soon. Just keep your doors and windows locked and don't keep anything in the car you wouldn't mind losing. And if you have special rims and tires, put those locking lug nuts on them, cars have been seen sitting up on blocks with no rims and tires next morning.

East Kendall is generally a good area. Don't know much about the schools since I don't have kids. Shopping is pretty good - Dadeland Mall is a large shopping center with a huge Macy's as their anchor chain. You also have Target/Best Buy and other large retailers very close as well. You can take US 1 to go to downtown which will take 30-45 minutes depending on traffic or you can take the metrorail. Your best bet would be to take the metrorail so you don't have to deal with parking and traffic. Traffic is horrible in the mornings heading towards downtown. I wouldn't say people are snobs in the area - just a general run of the mill area where people would not have a reason to be stuck up. By racial breakdown i'm guessing you mean ethnicity - majority hispanic of course - I'm not one of the citydata stats people so someone else can help you with the exact breakdown.

Thank you - there is a train like there is in Chi or NY that goes from Kendall to downtown Miami? Also, I am a little confused about why, if you live in Kendall, you write your address as Miami?

There's an elevated MetroRail train at Dadeland (SW 88th St at US1) that will take you to downtown Miami in about 15 minutes. Kendall uses "Miami" postal addresses because it is an unincorporated area of Miami-Dade County and most unincorporated areas just use "Miami" addresses. Kendall is about 10-20 miles (depending on where you are) from the Miami city limits.

Doggiebus' description is pretty accurate: East Kendall is a nice upper middle class area that nowadays is a little over half "Hispanic" and a little under half non-"Hispanic" white, with a handful of Asians and blacks. There are some snobby people and some modest people. Schools are generally well-regarded.
