Default Kendall - Miami?

I am a little confused about why, if you live in Kendall, you write your address as Miami? Is Kendall just a name of the area?

Kendall is unincorporated Miami-Dade County. Most addresses in unincorporated Miami-Dade use a "Miami" address although they are not in the Miami city limits. There are some people who live almost 20 miles from Miami proper who nonetheless have a "Miami" postal address.

It's mostly because the whole county uses the same street numbering grid. Not until you get in to the 300's for streets do they start showing another system (Homestead's). I think the post office just cares about the zip code for the most part.
