FIU is a way better school than UNF. FIU is among the top-rated schools nationwide for its research programs, better scores for testing, if you have an FIU degree and a UNF degree the FIU degree will command more respect and recognition.

From Wikipedia:
Florida International University is a Comprehensive Doctoral Research University with very high research activity as determined by the Carnegie Foundation. Florida International University is also the youngest university to be awarded a Phi Beta Kappa chapter by the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the country's oldest academic honor society. FIU is also the fifth-largest university in Florida and the thirteenth-largest university in the United States in terms of enrollment. U.S. News & World Report (2007) also ranks the Landon Undergraduate School of Business 7th in the nation and the Chapman Graduate School of Business among the top 20 business schools in the United States for international business.[5] BusinessWeek (2006) ranks the College of Business among the top 15% of graduate business schools in the U.S., 1st in South Florida, and in the top 25 among public business schools. In 2007, the Florida International University College of Law ranked 1st in the state of Florida with a bar passing rate of 94%, and 1st in the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam at 96%. This recognition comes as the academic quality of the university improves and its admissions rates become more selective. As of 2007, Florida International University attracts more valedictorians from South Florida than any other university in the country. [7] Admission standards have also increased with acceptance rates dropping greatly from 63.2% for Fall 2005 to 37% for Fall 2007.[8] The average incoming freshmen had a SAT score of 1144, a 24 ACT score and a 3.7 high school GPA. |

I don't care what some book or article says I went there and it sucked.Sure it looks good on paper but that's it. I rather get a degree from a school with no rank and learn something then go to a school with high ranking and learn nothing. A degree opens doors and knowledge gets you in them.

Okay, whatever, UNF is UNF. FIU is a million times more prestigious than UNF, but if you prefer UNF that's fine, you can go where ever you want.

Wow, for a School of Business in which 90% of students cheat with all that online bullsh*t and get degrees without ever leaning to speak English proficiently, that's surprising. That doesn't speak well for the rest of American colleges if FIU's business school can pull off reviews like that. I thought Latino magazine was the only one that gave FIU the time of day... If they only knew the truth!!!!!!!!

I love FIU and I have mostly nothing but positive things to say about my experience at FIU. With that being said FIU should really be called FHU (Florida Hispanic University) as there main priority is the Hispanic community. They cater to the hispanic student population like you would never believe, it is really like I am at a university in another country.
If you look at FIU.edu most of the top news is related to something Latin even if it is not so straight forward and you actually have to read the news article to see it is Latin related. The bookstore has numerous sections of books in spanish in this "American" institution. Almost everyone that works at the resturants, offices, and anywhere else on campus their first language is spanish and it is very noticeable at times. |

This prestige battle is annoying. There are better schools than both FIU and UNF. The main thing about going to a college is being at a place where you are happy. You can get a good education anywhere. It isn't always about prestige, its about what you do at that school.

Not that people's race really matters, but...
FIU is: 55% Hispanic (of any race) 21% White (non-Hispanic) 10% Black (non-Hispanic) 8% Asian (non-Hispanic) 6% Other (non-Hispanic races) The other is probably the large Indian population. I swear some apartment complexes by campus are almost all FIU Indian students lol. |
