Teaching in Miami-Dade
Hello,
I am looking to move to the Miami-Dade/Ft-Lauderdale-Broward area in the near future and would like to teach. Before you ask, yes, I'm aware of the salary and what I'm getting myself into. I am young and single, so I do not have the responsibilities of someone with a SO or family.
I'm in the process of obtaining a temporary certificate and everything, but would like to know what are the subject areas of need in Dade? I spoke to someone at Broward and they said math and science are critical areas of need there. Haven't been able to get in touch with anyone at Dade today, so I was curious.
I would like to teach Biology, so I would think it would be fairly easy to find a job, right? Is the hiring process fairly long, from those in the system or with firsthand knowledge? Thanks!

at least you have a subject area they are hiring in. i am considering getting either a math or science certification because it is the certificate that will get you a job in the whole state. seeing as you have a bio certification, how hard would it be for someone to pass that has only two levels of biology? I have an exercise science background with anatomy, physiology, etc.

I don't have a Bio certification..or any certification for that matter at the moment. I believe I will take the test though...I am in the same boat as you right now.

Lol, it was just a quick name I made up to post here.
Has anyone taken the FTCE certification tests to teach in Florida? I'm going to take it soon, so I'm curious of what to expect and how hard it is.

You would 'like' to teach. Why?

Recent reports indicate layoffs in Broward - I have to think many of the experienced educators are trying to obtain employment in Dade.

Why not? It's good experience and will help me in the future.
