Anyone know why there are approximately 800,000 stray cats in South Beach? I have never lived anywhere with a more out-of-control feral cat situation. They are everywhere! I kinda like it though--it adds to the character of the neighborhood. Stray cats are pretty badass. It's the domesticated cats I really hate.

Nothing. I was just asking if anyone knows why it got this way. I've never seen a feral cat population even 10% of what I see here.

HuH? I know it is hard to believe but you really can post something beside complaints on the Miami Forum.
In many places there are groups who help capture feral cats and have them spayed/neutered or IIRC feed them a birth control in food. Many times they aren't really feral but just pets left behind when someone moves.

atlantic city has the same thing. they all live under the boardwalk and come out in droves at night. why? tourist areas and beaches dump so much food everywhere so its easy for them to survive. In most places they would just starve or leave to find food.

Yeah, it's really sad. I used to live on South Beach and would always find 2-3 stray cats sleeping on top of my car when I came out for work in the mornings. I was always afraid of running one over. Many of my neighbors would put food out for them. I really do wonder how SO many got there...?

its not like somebody brought all of them here. there would be a normal amount but with an unlimited food supply any animal is going to multiply exponentially

Yeah, I think they must be reproducing. Why wouldn't they? However I have never come across a litter of kittens, so I have no proof.
