AMC Cocowalk 16 theaters--Closed?
Heard that the AMC Cocowalk 16 theaters closed as of last Sunday. Does anyone have any further details? I was just literally there last Saturday afternoon and there was zero indication anything was imminent, it was quite crowded and it was business as usual.

Cocowalk is one of those useless overpriced pay to park shopping centers. No surprise it will fail. Lost of AMC theaters have closed so it is no surprise if the cocowalk theater does too.

I don't think Cocowalk's fate will be the same as the Streets at Mayfair. Two touristy malls competing within a block does not work in the Grove, but once, I think so. However, the AMC Cocowalk was ALWAYS empty when I was there, it was dated and of course the outrageous parking and ackward garage made going to the movies there expensive and difficult. Cocowalk is nice if you want to visit some overprices chain restaurant in a touristy atmosphere-not nocking it-but I don't think tourists tend to go to the movies when they are there....too many other things to do, and most locals go to Sunset for the moves, plus its actually on Metrorail.

Like you I was a bit surprised, however, the word of this theater closing has been out for quite some time but no one knew when it would take place. I have been out of town for two weeks and just returned home and found that it had closed. Supposedly, the theater is to be renovated into a Muvico Theater but who knows for sure.

Isn't there a theater in that big shopping center in Tavernier that you pass on the right as you drive down the Keys? I'm referring to the plaza with Blockbuster, McDonald's, and a Winn Dixie or Publix (forget which).

Hmmm...if I had to spend $2,3, or even $5 for parking to watch a $10 movie...I would much rather go to Sunset Place, an actual mall, or Lincoln Road, SoBe baby!
I would like to see 1.)parking free in the garage, except for club hours 2.) the ex-AMC space used for an artsy/hippie type mall. Anybody else think a real arts district in the Grove would blow Wynwood/Design districts out of the water??

Oh well, another place to put in the gone but not forgotten thread. I used to go there before they opened the Sunset place.
I think Sunset killed all the movie theaters around the area, better seats, movie choices and sound.

I hope Cocowalk doesn't fail. The Grove is one of Miami's most beautiful areas, and its downtown is actually pleasant to access as a pedestrian.

How do places like that 'fail' ? I didn't think it was possible...
