Last time I checked, it was in the state of Florida, which of course is part o the United States. There is a difference between being part of Latin America and having a large Latin American INFLUENCE.

Well, of course it's not geographically part of South America, but culturally it feels very much so. I believe around 80% of the residents of Dade County are natives of Central & South America and the Caribbean.

True but the culture of the people, the food, language, tropical setting etc. makes one feel like they are in Latin America...with a pinch of New York.

Well, Miami is part of the United States. That said, I think it was author David Reiff who pointed out that when you look at a map of the Caribbean/Latin America, South Fla (and Miami) are pretty much sitting right there in plain view.

By contrast, if you look at a map of the continental USA you've got to tilt it to include Miami/So Fla.

Have you ever been to Hialeah? It truly feels like you are in Latin America.

If Miami is a supposed Latin American city , why don't people say the same about Los Angeles or Houston which both have a very large Latin American population. The truth is that Miami has maybe influenced by Latin America. But it is still part of the United States of America.

Miami is the only city I've lived where I actually felt at a disadvantage for not being fluent in Spanish..whether it was some issues with my job, catching a flight at the airport or just daily interaction at the dry cleaner's or at my local Publix. These were just my experiences only, of course...

I've lived in NYC, Chicago, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and now Los Angeles and I've never felt that same "out of my element" feeling as I did while living in Miami-Dade...again, my experiences only.

LA and Houston have a lot of Mexicans. You might think all Latin Americans are alike but they're not. Latinos from the Caribbean add a lot of flavor and pizzazz lol. There also a lot of Haitians and Bahamaians there as well.
