I caught this on YouTube and thought that some of the old timers would enjoy this. Amazing how things have changed over the years. Enjoy

I love old movie clips like this. In 1941, you had to go to the movie theater to see news reels like that. The beach scenes seem so classy and beautiful in contrast with the Reggeton festivals that now dominate the same beach...

Florida only got worse with time, hopefully if the real estate values crash to reality the trend will be reversed and Florida will once again be a fun place. Then we can get back the "vacationists".

Tallrick

During the late 40's and 50's Florida was a fun place for rich people. Poor people could only have a place in MB as a waiter, pianist, valet or pulling a rickshaw. Yes, Rich People love poor people with decorum.

Poor people could also work fighting crocodiles at the Everglades, taming parrots at the Parrot Jungle, shop attendant at Burdines or Sears, bank teller at the Intercontinental bank, bus boy at Pickin' Chicken or Ten Cents, bookie at the Hialeah Race Track and that's about it. Yes, it was fun, poor people had to smile and be happy and treat rich as royalty.

It was also possible to open a shop at the Riverside or Flagler for poor folks, catch racoons and armadillos in Coral Gables (trappers) or work in a factory in Hialeah for the minimum wage.

If you were black, your prospects were next to zero. You could work in MB, but you'd have to get the hell out before SUN DOWN. If you were a Jew, you would have yourself excluded from many clubs and hotels even in MB.

Believe me, you would have hated Miami in those days unless you were rich or "really solid" middle class.

Of course, that beach was for rich people. Poor people had their own places to bathe.

Since then, Miami has advanced a lot, but some were left behind because of their lack of skills:
