Walkability on South Beach
In your opinion and experience if I live and work in the South Beach area could I get by without my own set of wheels?? How walkable is the area and how much reliable transportation is there??
The alternative would for me to invest in at least a motor scooter or motorized bike... thoughts??
*Peace*

Its very doable if you live and work in South Beach. Public transit is good in South Beach too. The only time it may be a little harder is during the summer/rainy season.

LOVELY!! That is the answer I hoped for but wasn't 100% sure and didn't want to get my hopes up.
Thanks!

Yup! I have a few friends who live on south beach and get by without a car by working there as well. I don't personally think they're safe, but a lot of people have motor scooters and zip around all over the place. A functional alternative if you're not interested in a car right now.
It's a very pedestrian-friendly place, and public transportation isn't any more or less reliable than anywhere else in Miami-Dade.

Thats reassuring!!
Regarding the safety of the area what are your thoughts? I'm anticipating working some late nights, (hopefully nothing crazy late) as a young woman should I be concerned walking home alone after work?? Or would you say just a healthy dose of caution is required??

If all you do is in the beach area - you will be fine. As far as late nights it keeps very active throughout the wee hours - depending on where you live and work - you may very well be able to do it. Just keep your eyes open and move with purpose and you should be fine. SB is great and so much fun - enjoy!

You should be ok on the beach, but I still would be aware of your surroundings, walk in lighted areas late at light, and I probably wouldn't take the same route home every night, even on the beach.

You will not need a car, unless you work outside of SoBe. It is a wonderful place to live.

I would agree. South Beach is full of life and well-populated at most every hour, but that doesn't mean that's it's 100% safe at night, like most areas of any major city. Know the different choices you have in terms of walking routes, and remember that if it's very late and there don't seem to be a lot of people around, cabs are hailed fairly easily (except on major festival weekends).
