The best public High School is in Pinecrest, but that would be more than a 30 minute commute in rush hour probably. Doral is a nice area but I am not sure what the High Schools are like, maybe someone else knows?

Doral is a relatively nice area .... but if you are not Hispanic and/or do not speak Spanish it could be difficult ... ten- fifteen years ago it was a nice mix of non-Hispanic whites and professional Hispanics ... but do to a large Venezuelan and Colombian influx over the last few years .. you will find loads of people who do not speak any English , which can be frustrating if you do not speak Spanish . Not saying people are unfriendly or anything ... it is just that there are language barriers in many areas ... again it could make for awkward and frustrating days if you cannot communicate properly .

If you'll be working in Doral, try the area west of it, just north of SW 8th St, between 117th and 137th avenue, and Kendall as well; the closer to the turnpike the better (for your commute)!
Traffic is just kind of a fact of like around here, so it may take you a little more than 30 mins on some days, a little less on others to get where you're going

What is your budget? Consider these high schools:
Palmetto - Pinecrest and a slice of far east Kendall are zoned for this school. The commute to your job would be 20-40 minutes each way depending on where in the Palmetto zone you area.
Killian - most of east Kendall and all of central Kendall are zoned for this school. The commute will be about 20-35 minutes depending on where you are in the Killian zone.
Coral Gables - all areas of Coral Gables are zoned for this school. The commute will probably be about 20-30 minutes depending on where you are in Coral Gables.
Reagan - this is the high school for which Doral itself is zoned. I don't know much about the school except that it is rated well on greatschools.net and is in a safe area.
There are plenty of other nice areas, but their schools aren't considered to be the "best" ones.

doral
thanks to all for the input.
not knowing much about the area, Im thinking mid 200's for a house?? what would that buy in that area?
Im bilingual so the language barrier wont be a problem. now days you better be...
for any of you with HS kids, how do the high schools compare? I'll be coming from a pretty decent HS in our state that has a lot of good students taking honor clases and with 4.0 and above gpa's..is this comparable to these local HS?.... not trying to brag - just trying to get some info that's all..
and also, how is the crime in these areas. I hear good things about Miami and really bad things too in on line reports but would like to hear from the actual people living in this area to get a better picture of the environment.
thanks very much guys

A less expensive and solid option from Doral is Pembroke Pines, west Miramar, Southewest Ranches, Cooper City, Davie or Weston, which are about 30 minutes away via a 70 mph stint on I-75/Turnpike vs some of the traffic you may deal with coming from Coral Gables or or Pinecrest, although Doral proper is actually fine and worth considering.

All these areas mentioned to you have among the lowest crime rates in Miami-Dade county...which has higher crime rates nationally, but oh well...
