Help please.
Me, my boyfriend, and a friend are thinking about moving to the Miami are, from Maine meaning we are unfamiliar with the area. We are looking for a place for about 900 a month. Can we find a safe place for that price, if not where is a good place to look in Florida, that is going to be close to some fun cities and something we can afford, and how is the job market down there? Thanks for your help.

in Hialeah, east and south Hialeah especially you can find apartments around that price, but its kinda close to liberty city, crime in minimal, but the area has some ugly spots.
also near the airport, but then again you have some bad areas close by like brownsville or allapattah, little havanna isnt dangerous, onyl if you look for trouble.

Want my advice? Go for Miami Beach. You can rent an Art-deco Studio or maybe even 1-bedroom on South Beach for that price. Remember that it'll be old, and probably will have wall unit A/C's and washer/dryer for the whole building (if they don't, there's a place called Laundry Bar where you can do your wash and drink all at once!) instead of central A/C and W/D in unit.
There's always something to do on South Beach, and while parking/driving can be a hassle at times, and while it's not really representative of the whole Miami metro area, it's the place I would go to if I was looking for fun and excitement while paying $900 rent.

Do not come to Miami, you will be sorry. The job market is a disaster so unless you enjoy working for 10.00 an hour steer clear of the US version of the third world. Living in an apartment is distasteful and the city is not exciting unless you enjoy being under the influence on a regular basis. Miami is heading into a higher crime period due to the failed economy, so if you want to move here it is best to wait till the real estate bubble finally deflates, and the crime wave subsides. Otherwise you will be as angry and frustrated as so many transplants who came before you.

The city is not exciting?
If Miami is not exciting to you, then you must be a zombie.
The job market a disaster?
The job market is bad in all U.S. regions.
Miami a US version of the third world?
Miami is a beta world city.
Living in an apartment is distasful?
haha is that a joke... most of the condos here have a pool and green areas.... Try to have that in NYC.
Miami is heading into a higher crime? crime wave?
Ha ha ha ha.... OMG the apocalypse!
Miami is very safe. Maybe you live in a bad area in Key Largo.

Tallrick's post exemplifies one far end of the spectrum, that of the people who live here but hate it...why exactly they're not living somewhere that would make them happier, I don't know...
The basic point is that none of us can tell YOU how YOU will experience Miami. I would definitely recommend a "try before you buy" visit, but there's never a time to relocate and try something out like when you're young and without kids or a mortgage. For all you know at this point, you both may move down here, and have different opinions of the city while living in the same apartment.
The worst that could happen is that you don't like it and you move back, like many have done...
OOORRR, you might come down here, love it and never leave, like MANY others have also done

I agree with CJS08. Miami Beach is the place to go if you want to explore Miami. Coming from Maine, as I came from BOS, MB in the winter is like a dream. You got gorgeous palms, a cute city, beautiful young people, all kinds of weird and interesting places people and things going on, and endless summer vacation and the most spectacular turquoise ocean in the USA.
Miami is about the beach. Sure there's a lot more to it, but if you can start as a happy beach bum, I can tell you for sure you sure aren't going to miss the Maine winter. I can't tell you how many times I sat on the pier on South Pointe just laughing to myself thinking about how amusing it was to be sitting in shorts in perfect 75 degree January weather.
One caution is the blatant sexual decadence of Miami. It's something that might catch you off guard.
