Agreed 100%. A couple years ago I would have guessed the land would have gone to ugly row houses or maybe another chonga shopping mall like Dolphin.

I need to go there for a race. The last time I was there was for a wedding in 2001. Hopefully they keep the buildings in original condition. Adding a casino to the property is a lot better than making it more overpriced disgusting looking Hialeah developments. The track is the only attractive place in Hialeah left!

The last time i was there? Wow...when I was young. My mom is a Jehovah's Witness and the annual Convention was held there. But I just remember how gorgeous that place was! And the flamingos! And yes the architecture. I vaguely remember the architecture though!

The only thing that there ever was. The track and flamingos. Hialeah was just that. Did they put flamingos back?

I think the flamingos were always there. It's an Audubon protected area or something to that extent.

The flamingoes were maintained all the time the track was closed. As far as I know there were still events being held there. The parking lots have been in bad shape for 20 years, and the main reason that the buildings remained m ostly original was to save money. At one time the clubhouse had antique cars and a fire engine on display under brass chandeliers, but now I think they took that out and put in generic florescent lights. The second floor betting areas were an excellent example of 30's design. The last time any major work was done on the track was in the 1950's and that is why it held up so well. It would be a shame to change that.

Hialeah has been about cramming the most refugees in the smallest spaces for decades now. The ugly condos and townhomes in a treeless Moderator cut: flaming landscape is so disgusting that it amazes me that anyone would pay as much as they do to live there. The track shows that Hialeah could have been the best suburb in south Florida. I would have preferred for Hialeah to have its downtown area, surrounded by suburbs that looked like horse country and the commercial areas it currently has. Sort of like a Coral Gables without the fascism.

Hialeah means "Pretty Prarie" and what I have seen of older pictures of this city there weren't many trees to begin with, as of present there are quite a few being planted. Most of the trees I see at Hialeah Race track are Australian Pines which are considered invasive trees and more than likely will be chopped down in Dade and in the Keys in the future..

Totally agree and my biggest fear is to see the racetrack without those beautiful pines towering over it.

Those beautiful flamingos were brought in from Cuba, so I guess that these birds, who in effect are Cuban American (LOL) in the breathtaking Hialeah Park predate anything else that has happened in the city.
