But he made it sound like he's living in a tent or something.

Yeah well, a few months ago I was still sleeping on a dumped couch because shelters had a looooooong ass waiting list. 300$ month for a room vs. 900$ for a studio not really that different, just a couple of miles south. Those 600$ come handy, including an internet connection.
When you talk about living in a brand new skybox, then it's a whole new ball game. To me it 900$+deposits for a small studio just doesnt make any sense at this point. All about personal needs and priorities, that's something you should think about.

I feel compelled to compare my new area to the prices and quality to what was posted in Miami where I grew up in yet thankfully escaped last year.
The only downside to where I am now is work wise you may have to comute to Tampa or Clearwater to earn decent money but it's actually about the same as living in Kendall and working in downtown.BUT AT LEAST YOU STILL HAVE MONEY AFTER BILLS.And crime? What crime? And if your taxes are $5000,it's around$2000 up here in comparison.

I'm not sure if we really need two picture threads:

More pics on that one.

lol...you guys are funny....people that don't live in Miami. I told a friend that lives in Brooklyn, never been to Miami, that I am moving to Miami. His response was..."I dont know about that from what I heard of Miami." Come onnnn!!! People that never lived there and just because they know someone that lived in a run down area, want to assume that such a big county is all run down. Note...where he lives in BK is all drugs and crimes...but I would not tell him that cuz I never lived there...

No, the entire county isn't run down. But, essentially every neighborhood where someone with a typical middle-class income could possibly be able to purchase a home is indeed a dump.
I took my camera along with me while I was out early this Sunday morning. Here are a few pictures (and one short video clip) that are quite representative of most areas in northeastern Dade county west of Biscayne:
