We will be moving to Coconut Grove (job in in the Grove) this August and I need help is choosing a place to live. I would like to live in or near the grove but in a housing development. As i am moving from overseas I'd like a nice neighborhood with lots of families. I did visit Coconut Grove, Pinecrest and Coral Gables briefly a month ago but nothing jumped out at me. In fact i could not even find a housing development. It seems like there were houses far away from each other. As we have 3 kids i would like a nice friendly development. My kids are ages 10, 8 and 7. Can anyone help???????
thanks!

Are you looking for cookie-cutter style neighborhoods when you say "housing development?"

The older more established (more money than young families want to spend typically) neighborhoods will usually not have lots of children in them. If you want your children have other kids in the neighborhood to play with, that around their same age, you will have to look west or south in Miami-Dade and in Broward county just look in the western suburbs. These are where the newer homes are with younger families typically are they are not in the established neighborhoods typically.

This is a fairly accurate assessment of the area. There are plenty of areas that are just fine for kids and that have good schools, but you won't find gated communities with newer homes and playgrounds/pools packed with children anywhere near Coconut Grove. The Coconut Grove/Pinecrest/South Miami/Coral Gables area is probably the most desirable suburban area in all of Florida, but it is established and probably not what you're looking for. I would normally just tell people that the area is great and to stay close to work, but for you I would recommend Cooper City, Pembroke Pines, or Weston... all in Broward County. Your commute to work would be an hour or more, but that's the compromise you'll have to make in order to live in a new, master-planned area.
