I'm thinking about doing an internship in Miami beach and will be living at a friends in Kendall. I don't have a car but can use my friends and will also have a scooter, and a bycycle.

Is it so hot and schweaty that just waiting for a bus is unbearable?

If the office has a shower facility I'm considering riding my bike, i dont mind biking long distances. Will it be so hot that I will colapse riding there?

Be nice. enjoy the NICE weather while its still here, and i mean winter of course

You are probably better off renting a room on Miami Beach close to the office.

The only other half reasonable possibility is if your friend lives in East Kendal (Dadeland) where you can take a short walk or ride (no more than 5 minutes) to the Metrorail to Downtown, then a bus or a bike ride across the causeway to Miami Beach.

Even in that case you will be drenched in sweat, if riding the whole way you may collapse on top of that.

Riding a scooter you will probably be killed by a car in traffic.

Don't be too cheap with yourself: you are probably better off renting a room on Miami Beach close to the office.

If you can't afford that, don't do it.

It is hot, I guess the mornings wont be horrible probably low to mid 80s but afternoons are terrible. Now it has never actually gone above 100 degrees in Miami. (thank you atlantic) BUT the humidity will make it feel like 110-115 often. And temps in the summer months will be in the low 90s daily. Also with the scooter or bike you have to remember Miami gets almost daily thunderstorms from around 2:30pm-3pm to about 5pm sometimes lasting longer due to the build up of moisture over the everglades and all the heat and humidity. Miami is a tropical climate so it rains A LOT. Not much fun on a bike or scooter. Also in traffic that drive is going to suck. I am with others get a place closer if you can.

Think air-conditioning at all times and all places.

The problem with riding a bike or a scooter in Miami in the summer is not just the heat or safety. Its the rain, you just don't know when its going to rain. It usually rains only in the afternoons, but it could rain in the morning too. So its not a great idea Mid May through October.

The link below might help you consider what a bike commute in Miami is like. A professional urban planner wrote a journal about his daily bike commute from Miami Beach to Miami a few years back.

I personally would worry more about the drivers on the road over the heat...
