Default May be moving to Miami and need advice...

I may have to move to Miami in the next few months for my job (Foreign Exchange). I dont know the first thing about the city except that its hot, I should probably learn some spanish, and the Crime I hear about on the news. Im young (28), no kids and make a decent living (50K)? What are some of the good/bad neighborhoods and what can I expect. I like to go out and have a good time but im not exactly a party animal. Thanks for any help.

If you are in foreign exchange, it is likely that your job is in the Brickell area, on the coast, just south of downtown Miami. If so, live in the Brickell area, rent a studio or one-bedroom apartment.

In short, live close to where you work.

Brickell offers some nightlife and Miami Beach is just across the causeway.

Get a map of Miami and study it.

It looks like our Office will be a little south of the Miami International Airport, near the 836 and North LeJune Road. What would a commute be like from say, South Broward County?

ehh, I don't see a reason to live in Broward.. with no kids and a 50k a year budget you shouldnt have problems at all. You can find houses just outside of coral gables to rent.

I wouldn't worry about the crime in Miami, on here its way over played. Don't do the typical stupid things like leave things laying out in your car with your doors unlocked.. but its not like you are in south america where you are gonna get mugged if you wear a nice watch. you'll see how great it is when you are here.

28 years old, no kids ... you should live in Brickell, South Beach or Coconut Grove in a condo. Plenty of restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, etc...

Doggie,

I read on another thread that Coconut Grove wasn't nice. Is this true? I was always under the impression it was a very nice place to live.

Coconut Grove is very nice on one side and not so nice on the west side. On the north and south side are some really nice homes. Coconut Grove is super lush with large trees that cover the roads. It started out as artist colony and is now is hip hangout for some. Its one of Miami's prettier areas.

Yeah i like driving through that part of the city with all of the trees, you feel like you are in the jungle sometimes. Although I think you get a better bang for your buck in Brickell. but on a 50k salary.. living in those parts would be rough.. rent is about 1500 per month.
