Default Your opinion about this trip in Miami

Dear Posters,

First of all sorry for my moderate level in english, I'm french native

My family and I are going to spend a week in Miami Beach in april. You can't imagine how bad and long is the winter this year in France, so we are very impatient of being there!

I plan to rent a car too for a daytrip to the Everglades and I can't hardly imagine of being there without seeing a little bit of the other part of Miami Beach, I mean the city of Miami properly.

Ok, I already read the forum, and I know some areas I should never go like Overtown.
But I've always been attracted by Haiti, and I know about the existence of Little Haiti...

So the "roadtrip" I imagine in town will be going North on 2nd East Avenue from Julia Tuttle Causeway, up to 59th street just to see the newly renovated Caribbean market...
Do you think it's ok on this part of avenue? No problem to expect at red signal?
Or would it be possible to visit the market?
Ok I've been in Central Africal many times, and despite I'm white, I never been in any troubles, but all I know about the US is rural Oregon and Idaho...so,not the big towns!

And then I plan a half turn from the market to take Biscayne Boulevard from 36th NE down to Bayfront park.Is there any opportunity of street parking in this area because I'm travelling with my two little kids, and I prefer to avoid garage parking...

After that, I'd like to go to Little Havana via South Miami Avenue and SW 7th street untill SW 14th avenue to see Gomez park and back on east on SW 8th street to I-95 and Rickenbacker Causeway to go on Virginia Key for seafood at Jimbo's place...

So I don't if I'm wrong somewhere, but please tell me if I am...Of course it will be during the daytime!

Thank you for reading,

All the best,

Pascal

I dont see anything wrong or dangerous about your routes during the day time. I live right by little Haiti at night it can be a little dangerous or at least make people nervous but really its not that bad. You will probably stand out in the neighborhood. Just use common sense and try not too look too much like a tourist. Enjoy your stay.

The everglades is AWESOME! I also suggest going to Biscayne National park a tropical coral reef!

Thanks a lot for your comment FlyMIA! I don't think I look like a tourist when I'am abroad and I will drive a very basic car.

I don't plan to "explore" deeply Little Haiti by the backstreets, just want to see the colorful Market at 59th NE/2nd NE avenue!

All the Best!
