Metrorail- Why can't they do this? (Miami, North Bay Village: real estate, foreclosure, leases)

What most people here are missing is that they actually think people prefer or actually like to use mass transit in other areas. People don't use the subway just because it's convenient, they do it because they absolutely have to. When I lived in Manhattan I would have loved to have car but its just to expensive. I would have had to pay $400 for a parking garage (blocks from my apartment) and then I would have had to pay $15-$25 a day to park the car near work. However I do have wealthier friends that keep a car in Manhattan just to say that have one.
If you gave everyone in Manhattan a free parking space with their condo/apartment like Miami, trust me everyone would have a car.
Miami21 is just looking forward to anticipate the growth and therefore build with the future in mind.
The majority of the remarks from people here are people that quite frankly just don't understand. Given the option just about everyone would choose to have a car over pubic transportation. But when cities get to a certain point it just isn't feasible for everyone to have a car. So then the real choice becomes do I want to live in an urban center where a car is not feasible or the suburbs.
I now live in DC and can honestly say I personally prefer the suburbs (garage, backyard, etc.) but we have to live in the city because that's where our jobs are. The only other option would be spend hours in traffic, park at a metro station and still take the metro into the city. Or pay through the nose for parking and spend even longer in traffic.
As the urban density increase public transportation will eventually become the only option in downtown Miami for those who are not extremely wealthy. Miami is currently in a transition period so most people think is slowly become antiquated. 2/3 of the condo in downtown didn't even exist 7 years ago.
Oh of course, most people would rather drive than take mass transit, but that's the whole point, owning a vehicle is too expensive, and mass transit is CRAZY cheap. But some people do prefer though, because they don't want to be in traffic and want to avoid any chance of an accident.
Everyone has their own opinion of course, but in suburbs, you HAVE to own a vehicle or you don't go anywhere, AND you have to drive crazy miles to get to anything. THAT wastes so much gas, money AND time. Everything is far away, and for the important things you still have to drive to the city which can take forever. That's also one reason some people don't want to worry about the hassle and problems that owning a car bring.

Couldn't be more true and couldn't agree more. It's nice to finally have some people on the Miami forums that actually know what they are talking about, know how it ACTUALLY is, AND that speak how it is and aren't biased. Pheww about time.
You might want to look into research concerning our roads and highways. We simply can't keep up and can't build enough roads to support the number of vehicles on them. We lose so much productivity due to time wasted sitting idle in traffic. For core urban areas cars (electric or not) simply aren't the answer.
I'm all for removing cars from the road and not building more highways, which is why I'm a big Metrorail fan. I'm saying that those that will continue to need cars, i.e.- those living way out west will continue to need a car, thus they should be electric ones.
I know I'm kinda late to this discussion but I'm surprised this thread wasn't started earlier. But I don't understand how Miami and the metro as a whole has size a numbers that are comprarable to all the major metro's. We get alot of visitors from tourism and the third largest skyline in America to show that the only way is up in Miami. But we can't have good mass transit but we can have some of the worst traffic and road rage.
This is my point of view or theory why is because the only thing worst and less reliable tham mass transit is the local government. Somebody has to be making income off all these cars on the road being insurance companies, car dealerships like Braman motors. The same people who tried to stop the Marlins Stadium which will increase the cahnce of bringing metro-rail to Little Havana and expansion.

Yes, I agree. There needs to be a big citizens group so we can throw some weight around. One or two people isn't going to do it, but if we get a group, they'll have to listen and act.
I want accountability as well. No more furnishing offices with the half cent, no more leasing expensive office space. There's plenty of cheaper locations the offices can go. Also, no more pay increases for a while. If they don't want the job, there are plenty in Miami that do.
Miami is the most influential city in Florida and is tied with Atlanta for most influential city in the south.
Miami is and will continue to become a little NYC, and that's a good thing.
I don't think you're happy with Miami or city life and I suggest moving to NoFla or North Carolina before the prices get outrageous.
Most of "Miami" is only Dade County and not the city of Miami. It is very rural. Most people prefer to live in actual houses and not apartments. I never knew anyone when I was growing up down here that lived in an apartment. Almost everyone loves having space between their family and their neighbor. Liberals can try to push people to living in cubicle-like apartments in big concrete soviet-era buildings but that will never apeal to mainstream Americans.

I have not noticed any increase because I don't ride metrofail. My wife rode it for a few months before I got her a car. It took her twice as long to get to work using metrofail and metrobus. On nights she had to work late and got off around 11:00 PM I had to pick her up because we all know it is not safe to ride mass transit that late at night. She was so glad to get her car and got off of mass transit. I think everyone who has to take mass transit probably feels the same way.

I don't live in the city limits of Miami. I live in the southern part of Miami-Dade county. It is not urban and I am sure it will never be urban in my lifetime. They can implement miami21 or miami22 for that matter but it won't make a difference.

Miami and the surrounding cities, minus a few area way out west and some in the very south, are not rural.
You probably never knew anyone when you were young because, I'm assuming, that was at least 50 or so years ago, thus Miami was still part of the south. Miami is not a southern cultured city any more and rural south, well, what's left of it, won't be around forever, at least in the Miami Metro.
Quit putting this as a 'liberal v. conservative' issue, too. You obviously have a hatred against 'liberals' which is a shame. Liberals are people, Conservatives are people. Instead of the constant dividing terms like that, let's work together and come up with compromises. And we're not the Soviet Union so enough with that nonsense, too.

I guess you're way out in the sticks because I'm always reading on this forum how bad traffic in Miami Metro is.

Have you ever rode Metrorail at 11 PM? If not, how would you know it's not safe? I rode Metromover at night and there were plenty of guards both on trains at at stations. They roamed about.

When I said Miami, I meant the actual City of Miami, so STOP! Who's we? you and a few people, most people don't like and/or prefer that. And actually it makes it better not worse. Just ask NYC .

All of Dade County is not urban, some cities are suburban. The city you live in right now might be suburban and stay that way but that has nothing to do with any of the other cities in Dade County. Miami RIGHT NOW is urban and as time goes by ESPECIALLY when Miami21 goes into effect it will become ALL urban and in an insanely QUICK amount of time.
