so the rumors i hear about teachers teaching specifically for the FCAT and then having the kids watch videos for the rest of the school year are unsubstanciated?
notice you didnt really say anything in that post to confirm or deny my statement. you minced words. you handled it diplomatically. saying something without really saying anything.
muddy the waters to hide the problem. make things unnecessarily complex, confuse. thats the way things are corrupted in miami and exactly what youre demonstrating.
I'm interested in any opinions, good bad & ugly. Does Broward have less of the problems than Dade? Is there more of a mix of differerent people there? Is one county more affordable than the other (leaving out all slum areas and ghettos)?
I know I'm talking about two large counties but I don't know enough about the specific towns to get down to that level.
thanks!!
MUCH less of the problems than Dade. Overall I would be inclined to say the WORST neighborhood in Broward is safer then the BEST in Dade (check it out for yourself! Look up Coral Gables versus Hollywood or Fort Lauderdale on City-data). I have been pickpocketed in Miami (coconut grove) and have seen some really sick **** there. In Broward stay out of most of the area in between I-95 and the Turnpike and you are fine, with some exceptions to that rule. As far as one county being more affordable, they are really both the same to live in a good area, perhaps Broward giving you a higher quality of life for the dollar. Overall I would say some of the problems of Dade are present here (bad schools, rude people) but to a lesser extent. Here is a list of good and bad (in my opinion) of both counties.
Dade- Good- Lots to do, some really nice looking neighborhoods in Pinecrest/ Coral Gables/ Coconut Grove, nice areas are more charming than what broward has to offer, lots of diversity in its Latin culture, good shopping
Bad- Overcrowded, congested, pretentious people that really have nothing to show (in MOST cases), third- world like education (with a few exceptions), very unsafe in most of the county, expensive, uneducated population, horrible local attitude, government corruption is like nothing i have ever seen
Broward- Good- Relative safety of Western areas of the county (many cities like Coral Springs, Tamarac, Weston rank among the safer cities in the UNITED STATES)even the bad areas arent so bad compared to ANYWHERE in dade good or bad, much less traffic congestion, more diverse (All of Miami's latin diveristy is there, with the additions of a variety of whites from all sorts of backrounds, African Americans as well as Black people from the islands, and a fast growing Asian population in SW Broward and Sunrise, better (but still mostly iffy) schools, lots of stuff to do
Cons- $$$$$$ to live in the good areas, people still arent very nice in some areas, good schools are limited to Weston, Parkland, Davie,Coral Springs, Cooper City, crappy shopping compared to dade, although still safe compared to Dade or PBC (or any of Florida's urban areas from my own experience being around the state) violent crime has spiked this year.
Overall, Broward can be a very good place to live, especially if you have no kids. Just pick a spot where you feel comfortable and come with lots of $$$$ or a good job.

You really have to cross the county line to Palm Beach for things to start looking like "America."
The demographics are changing very very fast with all the immigration into Broward.
Most of the "immigration" is coming from the west indies. Most of the latinos coming are wealthy and educated and are fleeing Miami to escape that hell! As far as PBC, Boca sure as hell is like America, but the rest of it is just really not what it was. The bad areas there are the worst I have seen ANYHWERE. Have you ever been to Belle Glade? That could possibly be the worst town in the United States!! It happens to be in Palm Beach County, and really feels like something in the third world. West Palm Beach feels a lot like a third world city now too, with the extreme inequality(those Palm Beach mansions are cross the river from some of the worst neighborhoods in the country), crime, and general gap in PBC between the rich and poor being very extreme and really mirrioring something out of America more then anything in Broward. At least Broward has a middle class! In PBC anything north of Boca Raton, except for a couple of retirement communities is truly either EXTREMELY rich or EXTREMELY poor, from Delray to WPB. When I was diriving back from New York this december I stopped to use the restroom in what looked like a not so terrible area at a Boynton Beach Wendy's, and everyone was speaking spanish, including the staff. When I asked where the restroom was nobody spoke enough english to understand me. I have never experienced this in Broward. When i went in there i walked out after seeing 3 shirtless guys covered in MS-13 tatoos looking up to no good. Also have never experienced this anywhere in Broward including in some pretty bad places there. Im not saying PBC is a dump, and I am not saying Broward is heaven as it certainly is not and we certainly do have our fair share of crime and immigration associated problems. It is a nice place still in South PBC and Palm Beach Gardens/Jupiter, but too many people are making PBC seem like a heaven just due to its overall "whiter" populace.

Fort Lauderdale ... excellent post , probably the best comparison I have seen on this forum with out going overboard either on the negatives or positives .
Yes , Dade County has some nice , cool places to visit .... but I would stick with Broward County for a better quality of life . I feel that Broward will be a nice place to live for at least a few more years and unlike Dade County you can survive with out speaking Spanish
wellington looks nice but man is that place empty.
CIXel , what do you mean by "empty " .... if you have a family , Wellington is a great place to live , if you are into golf and horses than it is a great place to live ... I guess though it would be boring for young singles ... is that what you mean by empty ?

I have to add that Wellington is nice too.
PBC actually reminds me of parts of California or Texas , more so than Miami due to the high population of Mexican and Central American immigrants who are almost exclusively low income working class laborers along with some working class Puerto Ricans , while still having a large "white " population . Dade County and parts of Broward actually have Hispanics with very high incomes and education along of course with the rude "ghetto " ones .... again most hispanics tend to be from either Cuba or South America in Dade / Broward and Mexico / Central America / Puerto Rico in PBC . I have seen those MS-13 guys in Boynton Beach and it made me feel like I was in east los angeles ..... scary
I think you're probably just trying to make Miami-Dade seem like a good place to teach because you need more teachers there. You're not convincing anyone! You've been found out!
To be honest, the schools in Broward and Palm Beach are nothing to cheer about either.
PBC boy , you are generalizing man ... not all of the public schools in the tri -county area are bad ... there are a few good ones .
nah i dont need a nightlife but a large variety of stores would be great. it had a few big box stores, walmart, etc. youd live a very lonely existance there.
its too unpopulated that you might not be able to find friends verses the opposite which is miami where theres tons of people but no one is friendly.

My kids also go to a local elementary school that I am very happy with. If the original poster has any questions about the schools you can feel free to ask me.
This is how I know about the HS...
A) I went to school here...
B) My sister was a teacher at PMSH and she has told me all about the MDPS many of the reasons she left. For example many kids that my sister had in her AP and Honors classes she said did not belong there. But the school system pushed them up to the advanced classes for money purposes only...Kids shouldn't be pushed into advanced classes if they don't belong there...but this is our great school system that cares about kids not money at all...
BTW my posts are not negative, they are just the blunt truth. If you don't like to hear the truth that is fine, I understand it hurts to hear it.
