I live in San Diego CA and I'm just lurking on this board. I agree that Miami has more of the urban vibe and cool neighborhoods than Broward. I found Broward to be sterile, suburbia (as is much of the rest of the entire state of Florida). Although by the same token I agree with some of the posters about Miami's issues.

I love the tropical climate of Florida. I just wish just ONE of the cities in FL was a hip cool city like say a Seattle, Portland, San Fran, Boston or Neighborhoods in NYC. With more of a progressive, educated, artsy, young population like those aformentioned cities have. So much of FL is just cookie cutter, strip center, souless, dull suburbia full of cookie cutter people. At least Miami does have some character (but major problems too in terms of crime). It would be so cool to have a Portland or San Francisco but in a tropical setting!!!
