Crisko - One thing I forgot to mention. The nicest residential area close fo Ives Estates is Aventura/Turnberry - etc. (just follow Ives Dairy Road to the east and you'll see the area I'm talking about). There are tons of condos there - many with spectacular views (if you remember nothing else about the area - you will remember these views). And some may allow short term (less than a year) rentals. Prices may be good (the real estate market is pretty bad) - especially in the summer off season. Have to warn you that the average resident in this area is easily over 65 (and many are 70-90). But perhaps they will arrange dates with their granddaughters for you (or maybe not - this area has a large Jewish population and grandma may not be enthusiastic about having her granddaughter date an Irish guy - although I - a nice Jewish girl - married a fellow of English ancestry - OTOH - grandma didn't arrange the meeting ). Also - if you can get a rental in a nice building - you probably don't have to worry about being awakened in the middle of the night by your neighbors giving rowdy parties .

And I don't mean to presume anything about you - but if you are a gay guy - there's a large gay community a little to the north in Broward County.

And doggiebus and others are right - no matter what - you will need a car. Robyn

Thanks for all your help Robyn, you've been extremely helpful. I'll keep in mind those areas. I'm not so concerned if I'm surrounded by elderly Jewish people, Latin/Hispanic people, black or white people who don't like Irish (i.e. Nazis) - just more concerned as to whether they'd have a problem with me and if so, where do these people tend to reside so I can avoid pissing them off by moving in on their turf....lol

A date with a nice Jewish girl sounds very good indeed - especially because I'm not gay Maybe moving to an area of elderly Jewish people sounds like a better plan instead of Miami Beach! My uncle is Jewish and my grandmother and his grandmother got on very well. However, when they were sitting talking together at family gatherings, quite often a vortex of shame and guilt would open up in the skies above them destroying all enthusiastic young people's confidence within a 50 mile radius- Irish Catholic and Jewish grandmothers - one is the plutonium, the other is the detonator!

What about speaking espanol? No hablo espanol! I hear that it's very difficult to find someone who speaks English in Miami? A guy from our French division has been out there already - I haven't talked to him in great detail yet but he was taken aback by the lack of English speakers.

As long as you don't play music at max volume after 10 pm - you won't bother anyone anywhere (although if you're trying to sleep at 2 am - people in various places may bother you).

In the area you're talking about - a little Spanish may be useful - but not necessary. Other parts of the metro area are very different. Would be nice in general to learn a little Spanish if you plan to go here and there in the Miami metro area (my husband and I both spoke a fair amount of Spanish when we lived in Miami - but it was necessary for business). When my husband and I travel - I make the reservations - and he learns the languages (from a conversational - not written - point of view). He has used the Pimsleur method in recent years for conversational German - French - Japanese and Hebrew. You can pick up the first set of lessons relatively cheaply at Audiofy, Android Audiobook Application and see what you think.

I cannot imagine in a million years having Jewish *and* Irish Catholic family members. Too much confusion about what to feel guilty about . Robyn
