Miami will probably see a decrease in crime and lower income neighborhoods with the revitalization, as the ghettos would be bulldozed down and the demand to move to a "nicer" miami would increase and may even bring in the rich types from the suburbs. the city would become nicer and more expensive, and the low income folks would be forced to look elsewhere. that's exactly what happened with chicago- now many of the poor ghetto types have been relocated to the lame, undesirable suburbs (it is the same way in ur "socialist" europe as well). not the other way around. u sound really ignorant, maybe u need to get out and travel the country more, cause i really hope im not speaking to a grown man.

notice how detroit is not walkable and has terrible public transit...

notice places like chicago and nyc are very walkable and have great public transit...

I get the whole elitist attitude thing where you feel you personally are entitled to everything. But I don't get is in this Mia that you speak of where you don't want "low earners" who is going to serve you at the restaurant, work at the grocery store, take out the trash, etc.????

And interstingly enough cities with public transportation that provide options to people actually do better than ones that don't. Exactly what transportation system are you talking about in Detroit????

Where as cities that we would consider pretty good (NY, DC, Chi, Boston, etc.) all have extensive public transit.

While people who are well off can actually afford not to use those systems if they choose not to the availability of public transit provides for a more diverse and robust economy. Which actually allows the "high earners" to earn even higher.

i just really don't get it. why anyone would insist on keeping abandoned lots and urban prairies around is beyond me. either people are just lazy cause they don't want to walk, or there are some serious trolls on this forum. if you want to drive everywhere and live in sprawled out ghetto's, look in places like alabama, mississippi, or tennesee. miami is a city that plans on progressing, and not remaining ass backwards like its southern counterparts. all the snowbirds who come from places like nyc, boston or chicago are not going to allow miami to remain a sprawled out, empty mess, including myself.

so you lazy folks who refuse to walk should start getting in shape and prepare yourself. miami is a city, not a suburb.

Who do u think u r ..?

U think u can ...dictate to us to share your vice of walking, just because u r a walk freak ..?

Even more, that u will confiscate our tax money & use it to block us from using our car the way we like it..?

That's why Miami needs more elitist measures,so that only financially succesful people may be able to emigrate...

HPS: If & when you actually ever move to miami, you'll see that that many of Miami's ghettos are within the city of Miami itself, not in the outlying sprawled out areas.

People who live in places like Pinecrest, Coral Gables, South Miami etc. etc. don't rely on cars b/c they're fat & lazy. The MiamiDade transit system simply does not allow for the overwhelming majority of residents to get to/from work, run errands etc in a feasible way.

Also, regarding your earlier quote: "Miami will probably see a decrease in crime and lower income neighborhoods with the revitalization, as the ghettos would be bulldozed down and the demand to move to a "nicer" miami would increase and may even bring in the rich types from the suburbs. the city would become nicer and more expensive, and the low income folks would be forced to look elsewhere." If all the low-income neighborhoods were to somehow be wiped off Miami's map, you'd be out of luck. A paycheck from Walmart isn't going to pay the rent anywhere else.

I'm going to be trashed for saying this, but....., I would like to see less people here from the Northeast U.S. and more people here from the Midwest U.S.

Yes, I know, sprawl was the wrong word there. what i meant was regarding the fact that u need a car to get around in a lot of places in city limits. my fault, i was typing too fast.

those places u mentioned r suburbs. i understand that. thats why im saying if people want to drive everywhere, they should move to the suburbs. a city these days is supposed to be walkable and easy to get around on foot. if they don't want that, they should live out in the suburbs. or in alabama. pretty simple.

walmart via a transfer, is just a way to get my foot in the door in dade county. once in dade, i will attend the cheap Miami-Dade college and transfer on to a state school. by the time i graduate, hopefully the economy will be better and by then, i will get a better job. im still young, only 20. walmart is not definitely my choice for a career, it's just a mere job, that's all. by the time my life is sorted out, i will be able to afford the increase in expense of the miami21 plan.

however, u misinterpreted what i meant. that quote was mainly used to argue against harrymiafl's theory that a walkable, mass transit city will bring poverty and lower income residents to miami because they will take advantage of the fact u dont need a car to get around. when in reality, that argument is a joke and couldnt be further from the truth.

Are you talking about the incorporated City of Miami or Miami/Dade County? Two totally different animals. Robyn

Well, I imagine the mass transit system implemented would extend through all dade county, like the metro-rail and the buses, for instance. miami, city proper, is physically pretty small. like i said, sprawl was the wrong word in describing the city of miami, regardless though, a car is still a necessity in miami, in addition to its suburbs as well. leave the suburbs out of the equation, i don't care, but owning a car in a major city these days should not have to be a necessity.
