The last couple of nights they have been doing work on 96 between Wixom rd and my exit at Milford rd. I pass a sign that says right lane closed ahead, then work zone begins, then speed drops to 60 then to 45. So here I am doing 50 in one of the two lanes that are still open and car's trucks etc are flying past me so fast it's like I am standing still. I was thinking, " where the hell are the cops?" I mean seriously, you see their stupid speed traps all over the place trying to catch your everyday speeder yet when there are workers 5 ft from speeding traffic I have yet to see any cops trying to nail them in the work zones. Anyone else noticed this? It was really bad, would have to be to make me take notice.

Great post, and you're right, where are the cops in these work zones? The way people disregard the posted signs and therefore the safety of the road workers makes me think that working for MDOT could be more dangerous than being a cop in Detroit these days. And don't you love how the people who are blatantly breaking the law and want to blow through a construction zone doing 80 mph get upset with people who are simply trying to obey the rules and respect another person's life?

Yes I know what you mean, I have seen tons of cops in my travels but have NEVER seen one patrolling a work zone.

Same here, I've never seen a cop close to a work zone in MI. I think it is either PA or MA that every work zone has an officer right there by where the guys are working. NOBODY with 1/2 a brain speeds through work zones there. I don't see why that wouldn't work here as well. The first month or so they would more than make up for the OT with the increase in speeding tickets.

Lets not limit the area to work zones. So many drivers these days are just plain nuts. What I'd like to know is why so many are allowed to drive in the place. They simply don't deserve a driver's license.

I wish they would do it like the commercial trucking companies.........if one gets 2 or 3 "preventable" accidents no matter how minor your pretty much through and give up your CDL. That would eliminate most of the jackwipes off the road.

Are any of you familiar with the phrase "useful idiots"? The vast majority of drivers drive safely because they fear smashing their car and injuring themselves or others. It is a pathetic view of humanity to believe that fear of an expensive ticket is the only reason one would drive safely. At any rate, traffic cops are, for the most part, tax collectors.

What we ought to be focusing on is the fact that our Government officials are wasting money on un-needed construction just so they can qualify for more funds the following year. The whole thing is a big rip off and the tax payers are the ones getting screwed. I say send the cops after these corrupt officials and not worry about people speeding through construction zones that ought not be there in the first place.
