Smile Relocating to SW Michigan & Need advise

Hi all My husband and I are considering moving to SW Michigan with in the next three months and would like some advise on some places to live and just some overall thoughts on the area. My Husband will be working in the Stanton area and we would like to find an area that is within an hour of Holland and Muskegon. We want an area with a small town feel where people are friendly; a place where houses are affordable and have a decent amount of land we would be buying right before we move or shortly after we relocate. We are not sure where exactly to start looking or what the neighborhoods are like. Any help or advice would be great. Thank you

Hi!
You might want to check the thread I started - "East side or West side" - I can't really answer your question directly, but quite a few helpful folks chimed in. I was asking about the Muskegon area too.
Where are you moving from?

The town of Stanton is north east of Greenville, nearly in the center of the state. It's quite a drive to Holland/Muskegon. Just google stanton MI and you'll see it on the google map.

Are you sure you got the right location?

Do you have kids? Is schools important?

Yes I am sure I have the right area. We currently live in Delaware and my husband will be taking a job in Stanton, MI. We are not real sure about the areas in the Stanton area and would like to buy a house rather than rent.

We do not have any kids so schools are not a big priority. We are just looking for a small town feel, nice relaxed and good people.

Saw your post- I am sort of looking to relocate somewhere..anyway, I grew up in Michigan. Stanto is not in the SW part of MI, it is west-central. I don't think you want to drive that didtance to Muskegon either- I lived in Muskegon. What is making you move there, if that isn't being personal? Have you thought of living on the outskirts of Grand Rapids? There isn't much of anything in the small towns of Greenville, Belding. Just an exit off the highway- it is rural farm country, not 'small town'. If I can help, let me know.

A few weeks ago I drove through Greenville...I haven't been there in over 10 years and it has changed alot especially along M57 with new stores and businesses. Greenville is a small town feel, it does not feel like a rural farm country.

I do not live there or go to Greenville that much. You will need to check it out.

My husband is actually going to be working in Stanton and I will most likely be working in Stanton or Grand Rapids so we are looking for something kind of in the middle. We are not looking to really live in Muskegon just be around an hour away as we have friends that live there. We tend to move around a lot and have not really found a place that we have settled into. We are looking to buy a house with a bit of land that is not really close to many people but still close to a few shops, bars & restaurants. I have no problem driving 30 minutes to do my major shopping. I guess we are looking for the idea small town. I am not actually sure it exists Someone mentioned Greenville as a possibility. So we have kept it on our list and plan to visit while we are there. What is Stanton like?? We are looking at 2 houses in that area. I guess you could say it is time for a new adventure.

Where are you looking to move? Maybe we have lived there and I can help you

If you guys don't mind driving...look into Rockford, MI. It's probably a good 25 minutes from Stanton and the commute shouldn't be so bad. Most people commute to GR during the day and he will be driving away from GR.

Rockford is a nice town, the downtown area has plenty of shops and mom and pop restaurants. It's more upscale than Greenville MI. Rockford will get you much closer to Muskegon than Stanton.

Just another town to check out and I highly recommend it!
