Default Cadillac, Lake City, Reed City

Please tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly about living in these cities. I'm considering a retirement move. Thanks in advance for any input.

I can tell you that I have lived in Lake City for 30 years. I was raised here. I will tell you that it is a nice place to be for retirees. It is quite and peaceful. The people are friendly and there are alot of retirees in the area. There are festivals year round. Summer is great here. It can get a bit humid but not too bad. There are huge lakes and rivers all over the place up here. You also have forests and trails for hiking or biking and the such. There are ski resorts galore for the winter if youre into that. There is something for everyone and for every season here. The winters can be a bit harse with the snow belt being north of Lake city but summers, fall and spring make up for it. The air is clean and the water crisp. There arent alot of jobs at the moment in the area but this is true of most places right now, unfortunatly. But you said you were retiring so you really dont have to worry about that.If you would like to ask particular questions about the area, please feel free to contact me and I will try to answer them for you. Like I said, been here most of my life.

Not sure about the others, but we are looking to move up near traverse city, but gave Cadillac a long look. It is very woodsy and beautiful up that way. Also has very good fishing lakes. I really like Cadillac.

I've lived in the Cadillac/Lake City area for 20 years. Work in Reed City. I like the whole area. I'm an outdoor person, and I take advantage of the outdoor activities around here. Economy isn't so good right now, but since you're retiring it may not be that big an issue for you. Of the 3 towns, Cadillac has the most services to offer-hospital, walmart, downtown stores, auto service businesses, etc. Large variety of homes. Lake City is as a previous poster described. Lake Missaukee is a gem! Reed City also has a (smaller) hospital. People are friendly in all 3 towns. Fewer stores and services than Cadillac or Lake City. Nice section of older homes. All 3 towns have rural areas close by. If you like more rural, there are towns like McBain and Marion. If you get a chance, come and check out the area. I would recommend using a motel in Cadillac as base of operations.

Ah, I just noticed the date of original post- over 2 years old!! Oh well, maybe this information will help someone else if not the op.
