So while we're in TC sorting out the post-deer mess, I picked up some basics at Tom's, and they had Albie's pasty. We were all suitably impressed, though I think I like mine better.

They did have nice chunks of rutabagas, and unlike the bitter nasty I had the one time I tried to prepare them, these were lovely. Very nice.

I am hoping we're finally leaving to see my friend this weekend, I may just have to try making cheater's potato sausage, and make some homemade pasties while I'm there. I'm pretty good at pastry anyway, and having had the Albie's, I have an idea of what pastry to use for the crust. Maybe I'll make some beef, some potato sausage.... I might even be able to leave some in her freezer for when we head back north. That should help. Pasty is one of those things one should have waiting for a dark, sad day, and she has a few of those ahead. Nothing like leaving her a little edible love for when we can't be there, right?

Sorry folks , but still the best Pasties are up here in da U.P. regardless of how you do it , where you buy them , or make them , .....There is nothing else like sitting on a large rock , on the Superior shore , munching on a freshly made Pasty.... Its a lot of things , its the waves lapping at your feet, its the ore boats offshore , its the miles and miles of untouched beaches, their bays and coves lined with hemlock and white pines...its the U.P.

Darstar, we just backed out of the house in Kingsley, can you PLEASE stop tempting me? LOL... I don't have the money after hitting the deer to buy a house AND something to dig me out every winter.

Unless you volunteer to come do it for me, LOL!

*sigh*

You've already filled my head with yooper lust, ya know? Everything under the bridge already pales in comparison, and I haven't even seen da U.P. in person yet!

Yes , like I said before , why settle for second best ?LOL . And , also , like I said before , come on up to Gods Country, rent a place for a year , and see if you like it.... Forget all the snow stories, most are ment to scare off folks, its sort of a " you would not like it up here " ," its at the end of the road , earth drops off just outside of town", and , " you will be stranded all winter long holed up in your cabin , waiting for summer which will come some years in July, for a short time". Naw , forget all the scary stuff , take a hand full of feel good pills and shoot across the big bridge...I promise , once you enter the U.P. , you won't need em anymore.

And , another thing ,... I just got back from 4 days in Chicago , a little business , a little pleasure , and a lot of suburban crazy traffic. Took me 7 hours down , 7 hrs. back , good roads, little traffic. No big bridge to cross,.... etherway the Big Windy sure beats Detroit and SE Michigan , hands down and its closer by several hundred miles.... I doubt I will ever go east again , except for friends maybe. Wi . Il. , and all points south are better handled via Wisconsin anyway...... We up here are" Michigan" in name only, don't let anyone tell you different. We have tried for statehood 5 times over the years, maybe the next time we will susceed ! Kinda nice being able to say I live in the 51st state , ...if , in minds eye only, for now.

The BEST pasties are made by myself.............NO hamburger....only top sirloin meat that has been settin in the frig all nite with seasonings..........and potatoe..........My mom Always made them with top sirloin, and I got the recipe for the crust and seasoning from a true "Yooper" gal.....IMO, any pasty u buy at a restaruant or store is WAY too bland/dry.......My recipe ROCKS!!!!!
