I agree to that. Fair weather friends were never a good thing!
If you worked for Ford for 40s and you can't live off 950 plus your investments you got serious freaking problems! Keep on buying them Japanese cars maybe you'll lost that too!!!!

He did take the job and deserves the money he is intitled to! He worked hard for his pay and in return got screwed! He paid his taxes, MI just dodn't use it properly. Now that he's retired, someone else can do the job he did. Too bad now you need a 4 year degree to do it!
That drives up the price of a car also. People won't take a job if it won't pay the bills. Go back to "On The Job Training", and less college education, that gets you more bills. Most of the time it's blow off classes anyway. Have you seen what you can get a degree in now?
Yes, Fords did put "food on my table" growing up, but that doesn't mean I need to support it now that I'm on my own and see what it has done, and how they treat their employees. And believe me FORDS NEVER GAVE MY FAMILY ANYTHING!!!! It was all paid for through sweat and hard work!
As for SSI, if you worked and paid in to it you deserve it! It shouldn't change your pension.
Leach off a state? Give me a break! My family works, pays taxes, & wants somthing better that a state that is falling apart.
"WHEN MI turns around" Don't know if I be around that long to see it, and I'm only 34!

You might know how to spell, but you don't know how to read! I never worked for Fords my Father did! If you can live on 950 a month more power to you. Obviously you don't have a very high standard of living. When you have a job for 40 years you get used to living a certain way, when you retire you expect to be able to keep it, not have to fight for everything you earned. As for investments, I never spoke of any. You seem to assume a lot, and you know what happens when you assume... YOU make an ASS out of YOU & me (not so much me thought.)
Kinda hard to live off your stocks from a company that is trading, where on the stock market? Well, below what he bought them at. What a messed up investment it was for him.
Get back to me after you spend 40+ years at the same job and let me know how they treat you when you retire.
As for me buying a Japanese car, how much does Ford own of Mazda & Jaguar, or is it the other way around? Have you really looked to see where all of your car parts are made? NOT all in the USA anymore.

Well, I would be frustrated in that case as well. 40 years for nothing? It's not like they can go back and recover all those years of being told he would be fine if he paid his dues and his time.

And what you are saying here is true, crazy mom. My co-worker worked at GM for years and says they slowly and quietly switched to foreign parts, then harped on and on about "buying American". What a bunch of bull.
Your frustration is warrented crazymom. We just don't like all the sweeping negative statements about Michigan that some posters are fond of, and there is so much of it sometimes it is easy to get defensive of this state.

I meant you as in general not you as in you. When you say you never spoke of any investments exactly my point. IRA's are great thing. Relying solely on a private pension is just as smart as relying solely on SSI, it's not.
Any there is no company called Fords there is a company called Ford Motor Company.

Give me a F'in break!
You knew exactly what company I was talking about!
The investment part... I never spoke of them & I never said if he had them or not. Investing in your company (in stocks) was something you did if you were proud to work there, and he was, at one time! If you are promised a pension you should get what you have worked for, and nothing less! As for SSI you deserve that also, especially if you work hard your whole life and have to retire on a medical. If you pay in to it, it should be yours, NO questions asked!
You seem like a VERY BITTER PERSON when it comes to people not sharing you views.
I see you didn't make any mention that not all of your beloved "Made In America" cars are not ALL made here!
Would love to hear your views on getting MI back on it's feet (well, not really).

Can we get away from semantics? Just because an S was typed at the end of a word is no reason for someone to get their panties in a twist. We all know that FORDS and FORD in this thread is meant to be the same company.
The world isn't kind to people anymore. What people expected to get from a retirement plan just isn't happening. That's too bad but to be bitter isn't going to help matters. Unfortunately big corporations don't care. And the only people that get hurt by being bitter are the little people who are bitter.
Learn from their mistakes. If you happen to work for a large corporation, do not put all your own eggs in one basket.

Actually, that's the one given to the very poor. I think you mean SSDI which IS if you work and paid into, you deserve it. Same idea but slightly different.
SSI means Social Security Income and has VERY strict income criteria.
SSDI is for the elderly/disabled and has NO income criteria but it does have a prior work history criteria. Liz
