Hi everyone. We have heard very good things about the Okemos schools and I am hoping to get some feedback about them.

* What school (elementary and middle) does your child attend in Okemos?

* What do you really like about that school?

* Is there anything you don't like?

Thank you VERY much for your responses!!

Default Not an expert, but . . .

Since no one has replied, I will try to add my 2 cents.

It's been many, many years since my children attended Okemos schools but I still have friends in the area whose kids go there.

In general, I think you will find that all of the elementary schools are very good. It's possible for someone to respond to your question with a child that dislikes a particular school (or teacher) but that really doesn't tell you about the whole school, just that one kid's (or parent's) perspective. Mine mostly enjoyed their experience, but occasionally had teachers or classmates they couldn't stand. But then next year--surprise!--it's the best school ever.

If you are trying to decide where to buy a house in Okemos based on the closest school . . . I would forget trying to do that. Find a house in a neighborhood you like that appears to have at least some kids the same age as yours are, settle in, and enjoy. Honestly, if you take a lot of time to find the "perfect school" by the time you buy and move it's possible that the teachers or principal at the school you hear "rave reviews" about will change and then what?

More important factors might be: Do you plan on dropping off and picking up your kids each day? Then the ability to pull in and out of the parking lot during peak traffic times could be a factor. Or: Would you rather have your kids walk to school? That might lead you to a different option.

Hopefully, you get my point here.

My only other suggestion would be to call the district to make sure they aren't closing any more elementary schools in the near future. Some have closed recently, but can't remember which ones.
