Default Can someone gimme info on Linden, MI ?

I was born in Detroit, way back when. Moved to CA, and have been here ever since. But I would like to relocate ( thought I was moving to CO, but that's not going to work out) somewhere safe and cheap. Overall, what are the pros/cons with MI ? Im a single mom, and what is the job market like ?Would Linden be a good place for me to be ? I have family members living in MI, but they told me Im better off staying in CA. Thanks !

Linden is a very safe and somewhat cheap. It's a great place for a single mom. Like its neighbor, Fenton, Linden is making the transition from a rural community into a growth area. Linden is not growing as fast as Fenton quite yet, so now would be a good time to make the move.

Linden has good schools, but housing is a bit more than some of the other communities (Burton, Mt. Morris, Clio, etc... are cheaper to live in). However, the area has less crime. Plus, Fenton is growing into a city in itself, so you no longer have to commute to Flint to shop (they recently opened a Target, their WalMart is becoming a Super Walmart).
Winters? January and February are cold and snowy. March is still pretty chilly and it can snow all month long. November is chilly, but not a lot of snow. December can go either way, but typically it is not as cold nor as snowy as January. This year we had a white Easter! Snow in mid-April! Snow that stuck that is. But, as someone who has lived their entire life in Genesee County, I don't think winter is awful. We honestly get maybe an average of one snow day a year. We're used to it, I guess!

What kind of work do you do? I think if your family members are advising you to stay where you are instead of moving back to MI, you should take their advice seriously. We moved back to MI a few years ago from TX, after many of our family members told us we shouldn't. We were convinced that we would be fine and their warnings didn't apply. It was a very bad decision, they were right. The area itself is a good place to raise a family, but the job market stinks. I believe Linden is part of the Flint metro area, and that job market is very, very bad right now. Check out the job listings on monster.com, careerbuilder.com and mlive.com for Flint and you'll see what I mean.

I didn't read the job part before. Jobs around here are scarce. I am moving out of state soon myself, as I graduated from college two years ago and am still working at a grocery store for $10 an hour.

I am not sure what is on those sights, but you hear radio advertisements for them all the time.

While Linden is closer to Flint, it tends to be grouped with the Detroit area more. It's a nice little town and it has been growing. They have finally passed a school millage--the first one since the 70's---so that is a good sign. Fenton is also nice with lots of great shopping.

I grew up and lived in Holly for 25 years. It was a charmed childhood, part great parents and part growing up in Holly. My sister and I are both glad my folks moved to Holly (from Berkley) when we were little.

Linden is a very nice area, great schools, close to shopping and the expressway, lots of lakes, parks. Part of the downtown burned this spring, they are in the process of rebuilding it now. Was a shame to see old buildings from the 1800s burn. I have been building houses in the fenton- linden area, its a real buyers market. I have to sell my last few homes for what it cost me to build them. If your in the market for a home get a hold of me.......
