Hey there,
glad to hear that you are looking to move to Northern MI. If you like cold weather, snow and water, the petoskey area would be great for you. I was raised in that area and I truly love it. I am currently living away while in college but I plan to move back as soon as possible. The area is small however, so finding cheap entertainment can be hard sometimes. However they do have the best skiing there, whether is is on snow or on water, there is always a lake nearby up there. As far as part time jobs go there are a few up there, it also depends on what type of job you are looking for. As for everyday life, it is nice not having the busy city traffic or anything. Things are usually calm and there. All in All I highly suggest the Northern MI area to live, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else! |

North Michigan is great ! The UP is even better, just cross the bridge, and you are in another world !..........The Petoskey area is real nice, but , property is expensive, much more bang for the buck a few miles to the north, the upper Pen.

I used to vacation up there quite a bit. It's gorgeous
I love it there. I don't go there in the winter, but it's the place to be if you're a ski enthusiast ![]() Make sure you have a job before you move there though ![]() |

Good point , about a job. In the summer jobs are everywhere, due to the main industry....tourist !...in the winter , plan on living on what you made during the summer. Thats not all bad, go sking, hockey , curling, snowmobileing, drinking, hunting, ice fishing....internet,ebay, also good for time indoors , when the snow is piling up around your door, and the wind is howling thru the cracks in the floor...........and not worry !

I grew up in petoskey and am moving back with my boyfriend in May (only for a year so we can get on our feet) - I think petoskey has gone downhill since I was a child there - with the advent of Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, and the casino you can tell that they're trying to make a once amazing small town in the next Traverse City. Housing prices have gone up a huge amount and like everyone else has been saying jobs have been disappearing. So in the end petoskey was an excellent town and now it's an ok town. I doubt you would regret moving there but make sure you've got a job waiting for you.
