I would look at the Detroit School system when they can only get 24.9% to Graduate this says it all. They don't understand the Big Picture, they only see what is around them which by anyones standards is Very Sorry for a City the size of Detroit, I live in Roseville and we have seen more Black Families move in to get away from the city of Detroit cause they know it's a waste of time and money to stay in a city that with help of the Mayor is going down the drain real fast. All the Cusino's are starting to lay people off, cause there are very few people willing to go into Detroit and spend their money, I mean look at the Red Wings they can't even sell the place out and they have reached the Stanley Cup Play Offs and Detroit is known as HockeyTown, NO HOPE for Detroit.
The only people that are left in Detroit are the ones who back the Mayor or they can't afford to move out. Sorry state of affairs.

You can't prove a negative... It's what keeps silly superstitions like your beliefs about education alive.
I've dealt with people like you before... enough to know that your beliefs aren't based in reason and that no amount of evidence will prove to you that there's no bogeyman in the closet...
So, I ask you, why would a person who's reasonable want you as a neighbor? Why would a person who is reasonable want to live under a local government that is controlled by people like you?
You can rephrase it if you like. You can call yourself compassionate and me cold (I am white...), and acknowledge that you wouldn't want me as a neighbor either. However, doesn't that justify that "white flight" (I think, as another poster implied, it's not about color as much as culture) is just a practical response to circumstances?

I have no problem with white people moving away from a declining city, I'm black I wouldn't want to live in Detroit either. But the neighborhood that I grew up in Michigan was almost 100% white at first. We were one of the first black families to move to that neighborhood. It was a nice neighborhood, the black people moving in were working class blacks, engineers, teachers, etc. By time I moved to Alabama the neighborhood was 100% black, why all the fear the neighborhood didn't go down its still a nice neighborhood. And the school district didn't go down either the area was still majority white. Lets see what some of the black kids from the neighborhood ended up being. My house, engineer, teacher, IT. Across the street, accountant, engineer. Next door, another accountant, and some kind of other professional. Don't think any of us are in jail, or getting food stamps. Some of the posts on this topic are horrendous especially the stereotyping of a whole race and people who are against any kind of multiculturalism. I can say one thing for the South where I live, white people do not move out quick after a black moves into a neighborhood. The economy is doing good here so I think that really helps.. when times get rough like they are in Michigan people start to show their true selves. I feel sorry for some of the people in this forum they are 100% bigoted racists and they don't even realize it. Good thing its not acceptable to be an open racist these days because I think some of you would probably support institutionalized racism and hate crimes like the old days if you could.

Would you define racism as you use it? There seems to be multiple definitions these days: The classic definition that says judging people negatively on account of their color is at one "extreme." At the other extreme, racism is like a social philosophy that claims all people are aware of race and, therefore, racist.
How would you define racism? And, if a person doesn't know they're a racist, isn't your grand claim of pitying them, somewhat passive-aggressive?

Not at all. The attitudes of parents as mentioned before are reflected in the children and their attitudes towards education.
What the hell are you trying to prove anyway?

The truth is the first paragraph, but the second one I disagree with. I posted too quickly to clarify that before.
There IS a stigma and that's WHY all those things are true about black vs. white.

That makes sense to me.
Not trying to prove anything. I just like to hear what people think. If I hear something that doesn't make sense to me, I ask for clarity... Some people bowl... I obsess over phrasing and intent.
Edit: Asking where you're from is because I have some theories about the way people communicate and where they come from. When there's a manner of communicating that I think I recognize, I like to see if I'm right.
