Yeah, race ultimately plays a factor in many things. But even in Chicago when I lived there and was harassed by many beggars and felt unsafe in many areas, I didn't necessarily say it was Black people who were making me uneasy. It was shady people who made me feel unsafe. It just so happened that in Chicago the shady people were often black. In Phoenix, AZ those shady people might be Hispanic. In New York those shady people might be Italian.

And maybe people are leaving Detroit because Detroit just sucks now? It gets nothing but bad press and all anyone hears about is more job cuts and higher unemployment there.

I mean, c'mon...does everything have to be turned into a race thing? I didn't vote for Obama...but I sorta hoped after he got elected his rise to accomplishing what only whites had done before would end this stupid race debate nonsense once and for all.

But even with a Black person at the highest position in the US, people still find crap to gripe about.

Except Asian people. They don't complain about anything here in the states.

I like them.

I say people should just ignore people they don't like. You don't have to justify yourself. If you don't like rap music, don't listen to it. If you hate white people sitcoms, don't watch 'em. If you don't like black neighborhoods, avoid 'em. If you don't like white neighborhoods, avoid 'em.

I mean, if people are so caught up on race that they can't function in life, they need to just move as far as they can away from what they don't like and live there.

I personally don't care anymore whether whites like blacks or blacks like whites. You could have every white person live perfectly fine with black people and black people would still claim that wasn't good enough and find something else to complain about. And you could have every black person change to all the things white people want them to be and white people would still have issues with them in one way or another.

There is no solution. It's an unsolvable problem.

Now's not the time to be bickering about skin color, eating habits or taste in music, okay? I think many more people would like to find work, get back to saving/paying off bills and enjoying life overall.

Never been there...could very well be true!

I will say there's a a ton of cracked out meth addicts/makers/dealers apparently in the city I'm now living in...and I've yet to see one that's black. I'm not saying different races don't do drugs where I'm at...but man, I think far more white people use drugs and crap than the media says...it's just that they either hide it better or get away with more when they get caught.

I know quite a few black people just like this. Upper management/degreed professionals, very well off, and kind, classy, really nice people as well.

A voice of not only reason, but what is right. Whatever the user said about Blacks not being able to have class, well, that person has said that out of prejudice and hatred, and probably a sense wanting to paint everyone with one broad brush. I believe much of that has to do with a sense of wanting to control people.

Family has lived here forever... well my aunt moved to Chicago, Uncle moved to Marlette, Sister moved to Sterling Heights, and so on and so on.

Thing is, many people are "scared" of the city.
Not just WHITE people. I know BLACK people that don't drive in the city sometimes as well.

Don't make everything a white vs. black issue.

I'm an Anthropology student and I'm trying really hard to not smak some of you for the things youre saying. Get a long, stop the trash talk, stop the name calling... get over it. The attitudes are the reason people don't get along and don't like "other" people.

There are bad areas in Detroit, there are bad areas in all cities, but we live, right? Honestly, people move out of cities, but the reality of it is it's usually more of an economical issue over a racial issue. When you have the money to go, you go... or you find a nice area in the mess to live.

My family is still on the east side, yes, my family makes over 100k a year though, were not running, nothing has thankfully happened to us yet, but its not just the WHITE people that make others unwelcome and are racist... were victims of racial behavior all the time. and when people talk like this... really ugh just dont dare sit there and say it's all the WHITE people fault for not trusting your culture.

and don't call me racist either, although who you may have dated or went to school with in our life, I'm in the same boat as you. private schools, friends, more blacks than whites and dating a wonderful half black man. don't call me racist, I'm not a 'color' person.
