Default How easy is it to find jobs in Sterling Heights area?

I have been offered a super job in the Sterling Heights area. My husband and I are currently living in AL and both have good jobs. He is in manufacturing as a CNC operator (not auto). The economy here is great and unemployment is very low. The saying now is that we are living in the new Michigan because of all the auto makers and suppliers moving here.
My problem is that I am looking for a promotion within my company that is not available with my current job in AL, but I have been offered the title in Sterling Heights for probably not a great deal more money.
My decision to go or not to go will be based on the ability of my husband to get employment in his chosen field.
I need some advice as I am going to have to make a decision within the next few days.
I visited there this week and like the area, but I've heard of the high property taxes and keep getting the advice, that I better like it there, because if I buy a house, I am stuck with it. I'm interested in what an average car tag runs. The gas seemed extremely high when I had to refill my rental car.
I just need some advice as to whether this titile will be worth it or should my husband just stay here in the hot dry South?

Well, I am loathe to discourage anyone from moving here, but it would be in your hubby's best interest to do some job-hunting in the short amount of time you have. Jobs are rather scarce here, but then again it depends on what he does.

Car tags here are really cheap, but to be fair, I just moved here a year ago from southern California, so everything here seems cheap to me. It may not be compared to Alabama. But as a car tag example, I just paid mine through next year and it was $83!

Gas is high here, and I have no clue why...it's on par with Cali prices!

The market will eventually turn around, but for now, it is difficult to sell a home, with few exceptions. (And there are some, certain towns in the area do fairly well considering the overall economic situation.)

I am from michigan and just moved to AL, I am from a small town called Richmond great place to live about 25 mins north of sterling heights. With all do respect everyone is leaving MI and moving to AL why would you want to go to MI ? things in MI are alot more there than here gas, taxes, homeowners and auto ins my taxes were $ 4,000.00 a year in MI my taxes here are $975.00 and I am told that is high go figure? As far as finding a job good luck even if it,s not in the automotive my sister in law has been with out a job for over a year and she has nothing to do with automotive. What you will find in MI is a great deal on a house ( you wont get anyhting like you would here though fo rthe same amount of money ) .Also if you were raised in AL you will not like the winters ( at least i dont think so ) Dont get me wrong if my husband could get a job I would go home in a minute but thats because I was born and raised there and that's where my family is .As far as comparing State to state AL is a nicer place to live.Hope this helps good luck and God bless

I moved to Michigan from Pennsylvania 33 years ago and have never looked back. I live in Sterling Heights and think it is a great place to live. Plenty of parks, good schools, convenient to shopping and work. The Red Wings, Pistons and Tigers have good teams right now and then of course we have the Lions which is a different story.

The Utica Schools in Sterling Heights are top notch. Gas prices here are higher than last year but so is everyone else's. I talked with someone in Eklhart Indiana today and theirs are higher. Everything is relative to the $$$ earned.

Winter - yep colder than Alabama. I used to travel to AL for work and it is a nice state but I still like Michigan better. The lakes around here are great.

Need a realtor, I have one for you. I bought a rental property a couple of years ago through him and he was great.

Go to www.michworks.org to look for a job for your husband.
Bottom line, take the chance and come on up to Michigan. You will not regret getting out of the heat and drought.
