If trends continue California will move into 2nd place for highest unemployment in the country, bumping Michigan to #3. Woohoo!

And this is "WooHoo" because...isn't the Mi unenjoyment the same, and only dropping in rating because another state has more misery? We can all WooHoo when the numbers around the country drop...

Michigan's unemployment rate has been dropping all year. It's strange how it has been under-reported.

Michigan Economy at a Glance

It peaked at 14.5% Dec 09 and was down to 12.4% in November, and total number of jobs has increased in that time period (albeit small, like 10,000 jobs). Part of the unemployment drop though is because the Labor Force is smaller, either through people moving or dropping out of the job market.

The whole "unemployment" rate really needs to be rewritten by the Labor Department. It's no way to really judge an economy.

I don't know if this is good news or not, but I heard yesterday on NPR that Nevada's unemployment is now higher than Michigan's. Nice to be Number Two for a change!

The good news is that people must be moving out of state to find jobs which will relieve some of the stress on limited resources in Michigan. I wish it were because there are actually new jobs opening up and getting folks off the unemployment rolls but reality is what it is. I'd like to think that all those that want to stay can stay, however, supporting a family must come first.
