Verizon. I drive to Minnesota a lot and go through the UP and northern Wisconsin and never lose signal. Forget about 4G up there. Verizon is really the only carrier up there. It's one of the advantages of northern Michigan.

I live in an area that doesn't allow us internet or cell service. However, a friend of mine has a very old cell phone and was able to recieve a call in my driveway, until this time I never would have imagined getting enough signal to recieve a call. Is there a device that would take such a weak signal and amplify it enough to allow me to use my LG VS-740 smart phone?

A hospital has similar issues (too far from outside walls), they installed signal boosters / repeaters to help. Don't know what they cost, or what installation is like, but this might be something to look at.
