The amusing part of your rant is that in the last 40 years, Michigan has been governed by Republicans for 24 years, Democrats for 16.

There needs to be reform regarding how this country deals with unions. Unions only make sense if we have them in every state. Why? Because the minute a state becomes right-to-work, it just screwed over everyone else. Of course any CEO with half a brain in his/her head is going to want to get the lowest possible business tax with the least worker protections. Unless there is something that justifies going to a state with a higher tax rate (Silicon Valley, for an example, is an exception with its higher tax rate) Unless there is some other pressing factor they are going to go where they aren't tied down by more oppressive rates and regulations. Michigan needs to let the entitlement mentality just die already. Bury it in the ground and move on. Because until/if there is to ever be federal reform, this is the only way we have any real shot at competing. And even if you made Michigan a RTWS it would take time before the business community would be able to trust it enough to have the confidence to invest. Given the intense competition we are already facing from India and China, people had really ought to start reading the papers more. I think most people on this forum are well-informed, we need more of that. It's all part of a bigger picture where we need to renegotiate the trade policies. How our policies became so imbalanced in the first place was because: a.) the business community and politicians played the American public for suckers- and they got away with it and b.) it was in their own fiscal best interest. We still have the upper hand in many ways with these other nations. But until the public demands better and comes to some kind of nonpartisan consensus, we will just continue to bicker amongst ourselves without getting much of anything done, and these people in the top 1-2% will continue to grow more fantastically wealthy while the rest of us get squeezed that much more. I hope that we can move beyond partisan fighting all of the time, because I honestly believe the vast majority of Americans are just plain sick to death of it. We all know the same arguments, we seem to rehash them over and over without seeing the bigger problems. When corporations = people and money = speech, you don't have a government that is truly serving the people. It's serving the lobbyists, big businesses, and special interest groups. Which is sad, because we as a people deserve and CAN do better than this.

Yep.

I definitely favor one side over the other, but even I have to admit that it wouldn't have mattered who was in charge in this state in the past decade. Would have been a similar result.

The real problem isn't the politicians, it's the public that votes them in. Ignorant, spoiled, entitled, out-of-touch, dumb. The laughingstock of the rest of the industrialized world!

This is a myth that the right keeps trying to sell. Under bush he cut taxes for the rich and the stats show that unemployment rose. The rich do not take the money and run to make jobs for their fellow country men, if anything they run to move the jobs overseas to make even more money. You rubes who think that you want to lick the feet of the people like Koch's or other rich con artists will never see you are stroking the masters walnuts in hopes some scraps will fall off the table and you can lick them up or in some stupid fantasy that one day you will have your walnuts stroked and be the rich Patrician. Fools most of you who buy into this fantasy. You are not in the club and never will be in the club, you can only be the foot massager of these wealthy tyrants and carry their water if you are lucky. Most of you are nothing more than the scum they want to wipe off their feet when they have to step from their stretch limo to their posh apt.

it's the public that votes them in.
Polls have showen for years, many years in fact that less than half the voters in any state vote.
It is mainly the rich entitled who do go vote so they can keep what they have and take what they don't have.

Many of the poor uneducated stay away from the polls on voteing day because they see nothing but the same old thing election after election so why waste your time.

They see the wealthy rich like King Richard spending millions of his own money to buy the states votes. On the other hand they see the other person with less money to spend, so they cut a deal with those who can give them money and the poor are still left with nothing.

Hasn't been a poor person elected to any thing higher than a county supervisor who wasn't rich or in bed with some of the rich since Abe Lincon.

I'm with Odd fellow on most of what he says. People are blind to what the rich have did to people to get rich and stay rich.
Even today mines cave in on employees that have huge list of saftey voliations but the rich law makers refuse to close their rich buddys down till they bring the place up to standards. Every day a worker in this country is killed or maimed be cause bosses want faster production and shut off saftey devices so presses run faster.

My brother lacks the fingers and thumb of his left hand for this very reason. 3 guesses what the company did? First blocked OSHA from coming in the plant for nearly a week so they could get the saftey devices working again. Told My brother he had a life time job then declared bankrupsy 2 years latter, yet is still doing the same work in the same factory under a different name also with out those workers who were maimed in the plant.
Again the rich law makers allow this crap to go on.

Just saw a PBS show on the Airlines who get fined for saftey volations yesterday. Many of the fines are never paid and many that are paid are at a reduced rate.

Not sure if I'd want to live in a country where there were no rich people, or where people couldn't get rich. Even if they ARE annoying, snobbish, and screw us over sometimes. I have never gotten a job from a poor person. Working and being paid for it makes me feel good. Seems like a pretty good system.
