Moving to Kalamazoo MI
My job is transfering me to Kalamazoo and I am interested in knowing what it is like and what areas for a home buyer would generally be considered safe and family friendly. I would be looking in the 130 to 175 thousand range for a house if that helps. I would like to stay in the Kalamazoo school district so that we will be Promise qualified.
Thanks in advance for any help...

KZoo is nice, good to stay in the KZoo school district as a few months ago was announced that all children are guaranteed college education, paid for by some super rich person. I do alot of work in there, (painter) There is a nice area is on the west side but in Portage, very nice homes in your range, school in walking distance, The street name is Moorsbridge, you can mapquest it.

I grew up in Portage and would love to live there again if they could make the weather like it is here in NC!
I moved South 13 years ago, but here's my recollection. In Kazoo, you definitely want to avoid the North side. There are some beautiful neighborhoods near Western but I don't know how many have been "invaded" by students. I always loved Milwood (slightly East) and the Westnedge Hill area. The area just N of Parkview, and off Chevy Chase is great but I don't know the price range. Probably out of range but definitely worth viewing is the Bronson Blvd./Old Colony area. Also check out the Lakeway, Royce area on the east side of Kazoo. Gorgeous houses; one of my favorite boyfriends lived there. Ah, the memories.

Kalamazoo, MI
Graduated from Loy Norrix. Lived in the Milwood district. Haven't been back in a while but MI, as a whole, seems to be rather depressed. K-zoo was a nice enough place 30+ years ago but was showing some wear and tear even then. Both of my parents were from there and my dad loved it, my mom hated it. I left long ago and never had any driving desire to live there again but did love the St. Joe area which is now primarily a tourist town.

Kalamazoo/Portage, Michigan
Southwest Michigan such as Portage and Kalamazoo are great areas to live and raise a family. My family has lived here for 12 years. I live in Portage and more partial to Portage because that is the booming area for shopping, restaurants, spas and more. Moving to Kalamazoo with the promise of the Promise would be hard to pass up though.
