Copper Harbor, one of my favorite towns, at the far north end of the Keweenaw Peninsula. And as long as you're there, and have a good 4WD, head out to High Rock Point at the very tip on the peninsula. The point is wonderful, and with a bit of history. The Keweenaw Rocket Range 1962-1971

I wondered when someone would refer to Lake Superior. Nothing like is in the US, and yes its so large and has so much shoreline, that it might be unfair to just say " Lake Superior".
While you folks are at it , come on up to the shore around Marquette, the city, the beaches, the deep woods so close yet so far. Not much like it outside of parts of Alaska.......and don't forget the bridge that gets you there( if you come from lower Mi. land).
The UP has to be the most special, dramatic, scenic, different, place in America, and I have seen most all of both, but, here I go again, pushing the land above the big bridge.... I encourage everyone to see all of the state, upper and lower , if for nothing more than a comparison.

I will be going to Copper harbor on the 16 for my birthday on the 18th. Staying at the Kewnee

Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, Just 2 days, but partly to remember my trips 35 years ago. By the way, we drove out to the point and camped for 2 days, in a rental car! ( It did not look so good when I returned it to the Houghton airport). Those years so long ago, put the UP on my bucket list, and , at 67, I finally did it. These last four years have been great, very glad I did it, I only wish I had done it a few years ago now....

I recommend traveling the shoreline through Sleeping Bear, stopping off at Empire then Stocking Drive, Leland on the way. The center of the state if you're just in a hurry.

If a person had time...going this route, then heading to the U.P and Lake Superior would be one awesome trip!

Copper Peak near the western tip of the UP. The only ski flying ramp in the western hemisphere. Great views from the top on a nice day.

North of Copper Peak, Black River harbor was a cool place too. A large suspension footbridge spans the river at the harbor. Prominent enough of a bridge to be shown in my county map book.

If you've got some extra time, go to Mackinaw City via the "tunnel of trees" (M119 from Harbor Springs then north along the shore).

A clear day summer sunset over Michigan Beach in Charlevoix, or probably most other towns on the west coast, is a must see IMO.

OK, I'll stick to my original plan. Thanks for your input
