Prospects in my field (graphic design) are zilch also. This is f@#$%n' ridiculous. Where are the damn jobs? I'm glad I'm going back to school and getting a Master's....give me some time to save up and move as soon as I graduate.

Seriously, this crap is retarded.

KTS4no2 is on a distinguished road
The jobs are going 1] over seas to china and Korea and 2] to the south us where the unions are NOT
Unions account for only 11% of the us work force today, they is because they have the gimmies, and it is destroying the company's, also the CEOs making big $ for doing a bad job is not helping.
We are watching the dismantling of the usa industrial work force.
When the big three needed the help of the white house bush could only give them 45 min. for a photo op. He is only concerned about big oil.
The big three are just not getting the fact that they need to get on building small cars that get 40mpg or higher. They need to start taking back the front of hybr. cars.
Oil will not go back to 1.00 a gallon.
Our economy is doing what it is [slipping across the board] because of oil prices.
Cheney is pocketing big $ so why would he pull the puppet string of bush to have him help ease the oil pain of the us?
The days of the Hummers, and SUVs are over.
Big buses driving soccer moms to drop off one kid have to come to an end.
If you have the disposable cash to drive these dinos, then you should have the extra cash to pay a 5k a year tax for R&D on new tec. for new energy.
We need to put people back to work, cut out the unions, use the federal government to enforce good work practice, install universal health care, this is a big on, did you know that in the south, Toyota pays 200$ per car for health care of its workers? GM pays 1500$, this with the devaluation of the us dollar is making our cars a hard pill to swallow.
GM does not even make its small cars, I think the cobalt is partly made in the us.
The aveo is Korean.
If you read Iacocca's book where have all the leaders gone, He says that when the us called upon Detroit to step up and build tanks for the war, the arsenal of democracy, they went into high gear and supplied the goods to win ww2, now they need help from the government to get back on track.
And bush can only give a half a$$ed 45 min. Bush will go down in history as the dumbest idiot Texas ever produced. They need to put him back on his bar stool. I fear we are going to hurt for a few more years until we can get a new pres. and hopefully get back on track.

Yes, once the government assumes responsibility for private industry, then everything will be okay. That's why the Soviet Union is doing so well these days. Wait...

It is depressing on the michigan situation.
No one seems to have much hope for michigans future.
I recomend all those of you thinking of moving to michigan rethink if very carfully.

My daughter, her ex fiance, a good friend of hers and a good friend of his all moved to AL in the last year due to lack of jobs. But rather than blaming MI or themselves, they picked themselves up and MOVED, sometimes even without a job. Got one when they got there.

Others are just in the wrong HALF of the state. Detroit is NOT MI. As much as it thinks it is, it isn't. The economy seems to be picking up on the west coast of MI. Grand Rapids – Rapid Growth - Where The Jobs Are

I don't know what your major was but if may have been too restrictive or too general. Liz
Grs econ. is not picking up unless you are in the medical field. Gr is becoming a medical mecca. thats it. you can't find a job anywhere in gr. I have been in sales in this area for 6 years. 6 years ago it was pretty good, now it is ugly as ever. Nobody can afford to buy anything because they are scared about losing their jobs. Bankruptcy is extremely high. people go to dinner and split meals and drink water. Michigan sucks.

Not completely true, there are other fields that are growing in Grand Rapids:

Financial Services:
Bureau of Labor Statistics Data

Leisure and Hospitality:
Bureau of Labor Statistics Data

Professional and Business Services:
Bureau of Labor Statistics Data

And yes, Education and Health Services:
Bureau of Labor Statistics Data

Sales depends on what you are selling. Automotive supplies: good luck

That "splitting dinners and ordering water bit" came from a WOODTV expose on the Michigan economy, and they highlighted the owners of Famous Dave's BBQ restaurants where the owner claimed that. Those places are terrible, and they are in a very crowded restaurant market with the Chili's and Applebees. Most of those chain places need to die and go away.

My wife and I laughed when we watched that.

Don't get me wrong, if you can't find a job or you are in a sales field that is shrinking, it sucks.

UNLESS you are opening a business here. We need new business and new people who are not completely dragged down with hopelessness.
