Hey Yoopers,

I'm visiting Marquette this summer and I'd like to here what you think I should check out. I've been doing some research and found a lot of interesting stuff.

Presque Isle Park
Climb Sugarloaf
Hike near Hogsback (is that correct?)
Hike to Carp River

For food and drinks I was thinking the following:

Upfront & Company
The Vierling
Elizabeth's Chop House
Casa Calabria

I'll be staying at The Landmark and I'm really excited. Anything else that I should check out? Thanks!

Your choices so far are good
How long will you be visiting here for? Will it only be adults or kids too?
What interests do you have besides hiking and fine dining? What other outdoor interests do you have? Mountain biking? Kayaking? Fishing? Etc.

There's so much to do here (especially for nature lovers) that we'll need a bit more information

I'll be there for a week at the end of June with my wife, no kids. Can't wait to be in the U.P. Looks gorgeous.

I love fishing, hiking, and would be down for some mountain bikng or anything else outdoors. Up for just about anything.

There are a ton of waterfalls to be seen in the area also. You can grab a map and easily hike to many of them. Marquette is awesome...and there is a ton to do in that area, but if you can...head to Munising and check out Pictured Rocks, and also if you can...head to Copper Harbor for a day. The U.P is awesome!

I would skip Upfront and Elizabeths Chophouse. The Upfront is the college kids mecca, food not so great. The Chophouse IMO is pricey and highly overrated! MUST try is The Portside...the bread sticks and dip are to die for! Also, the pizza is awesome, their mexican dishes are HUGE and excellent, and my personal favorite the Skatchata sandwich, which needs extra time to make!! DELISH!! I also recommend checking out the Upnorth lodge, which is in Gwinn (about 25 miles from marquette.

Great ideas. We will definitely have time to check out some waterfalls and Pictured Rocks. Is Copper Harbor by Calumet?

Thanks. I'll check out Portside too.

Mexican food? I think I'll stick with local stuff like seafood and pasties. Lots of Mexican food here in LA.

Its another 40-50 miles north. We went in an old mine in Calumet last year that was very cool!...I think it was Calumet anyways, but there are a lot up there. To make things more interesting, read about the mining days...and the founding of Marquette and the area. It makes visiting all that more fun!

Will do, thanks again.

If anyone else has any ideas on what my wife and I should check out, please let me know. Thanks!

Upfront is a great place to dine. Only wood fired food around. Pizza and calzones are my favoites. Yes they have entertainment, if you come before 9;oo its a quiet experence. Elizabeths ( Chophouse) is best food in the UP, hands down. I had lunch there today( you can spend about 20.00 for two for lunch. Yes at nite it can be a bit expensive., but , worth the trip for special times.
Marquette has a lot of choices, more restaurants than people, many times.
Out of town there are a few places too. In Gwinn Upnorth lodge is great for ribs. Then there is the Brownstone Inn in AuTrain.....No one starves in Marquette for sure!
