If everyone with a ****ty attitude moves south it won't bother me at all. The Grand Rapids/West michigan area is booming! There are 7 construction cranes in the downtown Grand Rapids area alone --billions in investment in new high-tech health care and med/tech companies and jobs. Spectrum Health is hiring hundreds if not thousands of people in the coming years.
Holland has two brand new office buuildings in place and another new one plus a big hotel are being built right downtown. Haworth is soaring. Herman Miller is in a profit mode. Retail development continues nonstop.
Have you been to Muskegon lately? More development and construction in the past two years than in the past two decades!! New buildings = new companies = new jobs.
Get your head and your ass out of the Detroit/auto-industry doldrums and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Screw the union and move on to a better life. The entitlement attitude of some people in this state is mind-boggling. If I had time there are about three ideas I have for starting new businesses. Find a need and fill it.
If it doesn't work for YOU in Michigan right now, then get the hell out! The rest of us are doing fine! ;-)

That is what I did. I looked at what things people can not live with out. My answer was water. I was a long haul, 3/4 of a million in investments, 2 years in an apprenticeship. It worked!
BTW, do not tell me you can not get the money, if you have been responsible with your credit you can. I stared very small.

Funny how one side of the state is steaming ahead, and the other side is not...yet Americans focus on the negative side and ignore the positive one.

On another thread I posted the story of a guy with a criminal record who straightened out and started a successful lawn-care business. I also know a college drop-out who made extra money by driving senior citizens to the airport, and then branched out into pet-sitting. Of course, those are all service jobs, which require a sufficiently large number of people who can afford those services for a customer base, so maybe it can't happen everywhere, but I will still agree that people with initiative can succeed in Michigan.

don't believe the How good it is crowd.
Don't buy into this Michigan is doing well in Grand Rapids.I live there and here is a artical in the paper.
Not all business is bad in Michigan...
The moving companies are doing very well:
Grand Rapids | WZZM13.com - They see it everyday, more and more families on the move.
"The majority of the people that are moving are moving out of the state," said Gary Steensma, Vice President and General of Corrigan United Van Lines.
All the items on the Corrigan Grand Rapids warehouse floor belong to people leaving Michigan.
"Once they're out, they're out and not very many are coming back,” said Steensma.
"Our fear is that when all those people move out, and nobody's moving back in our business line, will have to change."
According to United Van Lines data 65% of Michigan moves are outbound. The same trend is seen by other movers.
“From last year to this year our interstate moving has pretty much doubled the first quarter of the state moving people out of Michigan," said Jon Sorber, Executive Vice President of Two Men and a Truck.
If it was doing so well these people who think they can prop up mi would not even waist their time posting about it, they would be out working making all that money they say is out there. lol. forclosures are up in GR as is all of MI.

No need to buy anything, that is the beauty of facts over hear-say or news media articles. Read the latest quarter employement figures for Grand Rapids in the UpJohn Report below....a 0.9% increase in employment in the last quarter alone:
http://www.upjohninst.org/regional/Jun2007Busout.pdf
I suppose the non-profit Upjohn Institute is lying...and we should focus on an Internet news article instead?
And if am sorry you lost your job, conforming to your theory that those who post here have too much free time and must thus be jobless...
Also, sorry your move out of Michigan didn't go so well...perhaps your anger via these forums will make it all better?

You can not force charity. The government does not want to take my money so I feel good about myself!!! They want to take my money, to give away to control people. They hope most will not bite the hand that feeds them.

A society that is reliant upon an entity or government, is a society that is easier to control (manipulate/mold/conform/etc). Just ask the Egyptians about the pyramids...you work for free, you eat and live another day. The very small elite minority control the vast majority this way throughout history...and America is no exception.
There are deep seated reasons why basic budgeting, accounting, personal taxes, etc are not taught across America in High School...herd mentality without question, spend every dollar without thinking, reply on Uncle Sam when you are ill prepared to become old while fearfully voting for increased entitlements when it becomes your only option to exist in such "freedom".
