My husband is a hunter, so he LOVES Cabelas! I don't know where Dundee is, though.
We had a Cabelas near us in TX, but my husband seems to prefer ordering from the catalog. I don't know why, when there is one close by - who wants to pay shipping?
Thanks for the information - I'll look Dundee up on Mapquest!

Cabela's in Dundee ROCKS!!!! I love that place.....I'd much rather go to see the displays than order from the catalog anyday.

We're apparently getting a Cabela's in Grand Rapids. A lot of geeked West Michiganders, that's for sure, because they won't have to truck down to Dundee. But sorry khfar, that doesn't help you. Dundee is between Detroit and Toledo.
Lands End has great stuff. Do not buy Columbia winter coats. They're everywhere, and they fall apart after one season (at least, 2 of our kids' coats did).

Thank you! My neighbors that have kids, have said the same thing. I bought my kids' backpacks from Lands End 2 years ago, and they are still in excellent condition. So, people won't have to twist my arm to buy other things there!

My husband has had a Columbia jacket that he bought at Cabela's 4 years ago...still in great shape, been washed 3 times. Too bad he won't need all three parts of it now but we didn't give it away cause he can use some of it here. Liz

It might be just the kids' coats (made in a different country than adult coats?). I have a Columbia jacket I bought 3 or 4 years ago that seems to be fine, but actually I don't wear it that often. I have a wool coat I like better.
Two of my daughters' coats lost the zippers, and the liners are coming out. Grrr. I have heard a lot of other parents complain about them.

Or it could be the level of abuse that kids subject their coats to versus the adults? Liz

Well, that goes without saying. Still, it'd be nice not to have to buy new winter coats every year, especially if they still fit.

Talk to me again when winter hits and I'm holed up in the house, lol!

OK khfar, today is a perfect Michigan summer day. Here in West Michigan, I'd call it "partly sunny", a lot of big puffy clouds so the sun is occasionally out, occasionally not. Humidity not too high. Temperature this morning starting at 69 and reaching about 80. I'd take 120 days straight like this anytime, and then I'd be ready for Fall. If it goes two weeks of being sunny and hot (90+) all day, like we had a few weeks ago, I'm dying for some clouds and rain. Needless to say I would not make a good Southerner (plus my Irish skin doesn't tan very well).

I'm from Ohio and Michigan. Planning on returning very soon to Chelsea. Haven't driven in winter weather for 20 yrs. The heat and humidity here in SC is oppressive. I'll take the snow and adjust. Being close to my family is my bonus and my plan. Enjoyed reading all that you had to say.
