Default on the nose.

On the nose Megellan. A lot of us New Englanders and Northeastern are probably heading you way soon rather than later. Especially retirees. They will be coming to escape the high cost of life in those areas. Especially if they are on the lower end in fixed income. Though you will see an eventual move by more entrepreneurial types form NY, MA., Conn., and D.C. It getting tougher to start a business here and/or hold on to one. There is just so much competition here and restrictions are getting tougher. Now from what I'm getting from this forum it's not that easy there either. But I'm really figuring there is going to be a lot of easing of restrictions and taxes for business after the Exodus of people and business from MI. Maybe I really guessing this though.

Even though in areas like where we live in Grand Rapids, where there are a lot of transferees (and even immigrants), everyone seems to mix well.
Hope that stays true. I'll speak for New Englander. We aren't the friendliest and warmest people on the planet. But we work hard and are loyal to the end if you earn our respect and/or friendship. Granted some of us are obnoxious but not the the majority.......well unless the Red Sox are in town. Then watch out.

Michigan would be a stretch, because geographically it's so far away, and the climate is so much different. You might get a few Californians moving here because they have family here, or are offered a job here, but to just move for a better life, I doubt it (not in great numbers).
Actually, Michigan to California is an easy travel. Lot's of flights out at discount prices. It's also an easy (but long) drive.

In terms of cost of housing, most Californians would be amazed. Houses in Michigan are well built for the price. Someone living in the Bay area told me my house would cost $3 million there. It's 1/10th that here.

I definitely think Michigan could draw Californians who want a beautiful state, lakes, change of seasons and less expensive slower pace of life.

I have a copy of a report from a research institute describing how many people left Michigan and to what states they went. Most are characterless sunbelt states, although you have a number of people going to Illinois (Chicago) and New Jersey (NYC burbs) for work.

Michigan is gaining popularity. My brother is moving there from LA and we thought about it. Mainly because people who know who live there brag about it.

it sounds nice! and it's cheap to live there, cheaper than most states.

Yeah. I seen alot of Michigan plates since I got here. Honestly I think you may see alot of these folk leave here soon. I'm telling you NJ is a very corrupt state and not friend for people to move to.
In fact I believe it winning the most corrupt state poll in city data.
