I think I've corrected this statement maybe a dozen times on this forum. Does anyone know where this misinformation comes from? LGOG? Is it one of the Detroit papers that keeps saying that "Michigan leads the nation in foreclosures?" Because Michigan does not and has not led the nation in foreclosures.

"While 43 states experienced year-over-year increases in foreclosure activity, just five states California, Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Georgia accounted for more than half of the nation's total foreclosure filings,"

And Georgia has flat to rising home prices in most areas, and unemployment is almost nothing in Georgia. Some people just don't pay their bills and want the 'easy' way out of their mortgage contract. It's definitely not all about the economy.

There is no lack of history-oriented attractions in Michigan. Just to name a few:
Fort Wilkins, Copper Harbor
Fort Mackinaw, Mackinaw City
Mackinac Island
Great Lakes Naval Memorial, Muskegon (where you can tour a WWII sub)
Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village, Dearborn
etc.

Well for one thing... I LOVE MACKINAW!!! I've been there 4 times and stayed at the Grand Hotel each time. Nightly walks on the beach, horseback riding, paddle boats, in town shopping... what's not to like? It has beautiful scenery too! Just because it's night-life doesn't compare to somewhere like New York, doesn't mean that it's boring! To each, their own!!!

I think it's actually "Fort Michilimackinac" in Mackinaw City. Pronounced "Mish-Ili-mackinaw". I was just in the UP last weekend and we drove through Mackinaw City.

Oops again. I got so caught up with trying to get my c's and w's in the right place that I forgot the correct name of the historical attraction in Mackinaw City.

It calls itself "Colonial Michilimackinac", perhaps to avoid confusion with Fort Mackinac on Mackinac island, or perhaps to invite comparisons with Colonial Williamsburg in VA. Anyway, it's worth a look, if you're interested in that sort of thing.
