Maybe the question should be has Granholm helped or hurt Michigan. IMO she has been AWOL since she was first elected.

Give me a break. The Katrina "mess" was the result of a huge hurricane directly hitting a vulnerable American city. It has happened many times before in our country's history, and it will happen many times hence. Big hurricanes do lots of damage. If Katrina hit when Clinton was president, then what? Less damage? The city would already be rebuilt? Help me out here.

Jumpygh - Great point. That is the reason the democrats lost the last election, it always feels like they are stretching a bit much just to make Bush look bad. Even though the media might portray that everyone is unhappy with Bush, if he were to run again. Not that he has been the best, but what the heck, all democrats can do is point, whine, and tear down Bush.
Granholm could have done much more, but I think she is to busy trying to please everyone. Make some tough choices, don't do what the past governors have done.

Actually, MI per capita's income was BEST back in 1977, during Carter. Personal Income - Michigan in Brief It was 107.6% of the US then. The period during Clinton wasn't quite as good.

According to William Milliken - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia He was MI's governor during those years. Maybe that says something. Maybe MI needs a Rep governor again. Liz

You are not getting what I'm saying at all. The resources that states sent to the gulf area, that was not donated...the federal reimbursement to states who provided resources to the gulf region after Katrina....some states have not been able to cash in those IOUs, because there is no money to pay them...it's all going to the trillion dollar war....We taxpayers lost 26 million dollars just keeping ice frozen...ice that was never used and had to be melted. That is just Katrina ice...imagine was is being wasted in the war.

But, the following year was an election year. No hurricanes. Bush canceled them because of the election. Seeee he can if he wants to!

So yes, Bush hurt Michigan.
The war isn't the cause of the state's problems, but it could have pulled us right out of our slump if anyone had had the sense to put Detroiters to work making planes and munitions and stuff.

The collapse of the auto industry and Michigans economy started 30 years ago when a machinist made more than a Machinists does today. We cant go any lower to compete in a world market. The US autoworker has given back everything the "greatest generation" won at the union bargaining table. The adjustment to cmpete in a world market was made on the back of the union auto worker and that is only right. We are now a completely stripped carcass so the corporate vultures can back off.

Hard to believe that in 2006 the #1 selling vehicle in the US was

Ford F-150
