Honestly, I think we were all duped by responding to this post. It didn't really deserve any replies.

If Novi (the poster child of sprawlsburg) is the best Michigan has to offer, then it might as well bring the horses on in...

Novi is one of this year’s 10 Best Towns for Families in the U.S., according to Family Circle.
The national magazine based its selection on criteria that included cost of living, jobs, schools, healthcare, air quality, green space, and crime rate.
A main part of the Novi entry referred to the city’s diversity.

Novi was nominated like the 49th best small town in the US to live.

I have been through ALL of Michigan and nothing comes close to Novi as a whole.

It's got a ton of businesses fairly close to one another, beautiful neighborhoods, great schools, great bars, great clubs, etc.

Places such as Royal Oak and Birmingham are overrated and overpriced dumps.

Seriously. You go through downtown Royal Oak and it looks like downtown Bosnia. It's ugly.

Novi is far cheaper than RO, it's nicer, it has more businesses, huge shopping areas, and it has everything RO has but better. The streets also look nicer.

Novi should not even qualify as a "town." It's the definition of sprawl. No history, no character, no soul. It's just a bunch of chain stores and big box developments. Yuck!

I think the perception of Novi as "the best town in MI" says a lot about the mentality of Michigan residents. Meanwhile, Detroit, Flint, Lansing, Jackson, and other once beautiful cities continue to rot while sprawl like this takes over.

While it is true it was 48th best place to live in 2008, West Bloomfield, Ann Arbor, and Troy ranked higher in that same year. (36, 27, and 22 respectively). I actually would agree that Troy is a pretty good city being that it has more business, is more developed, and pretty much has just as good schools.

Personally, I would pick Sterling Heights over Novi having lived there for a few years. The reason it ranked lower (61) was primarily because the city has 4 auto plants within it with one of them almost threatening to shut down back in 2008. So its local economy took a bigger blow than most other suburbs. However, without that economic flaw, I think SH would rank pretty close to Novi.

But even still, claiming that somewhere is "the best" place to live is still pretty subjective despite the list trying to use statistics to back up the claims. I can tell you're trying to do a city vs. city bashing, but still it helps to be rational about it.
